Thanks mamafish--I think we do have a mag deficiency problem here, so this info is really helpful! I may hold off on the extra calcium atm. We are doing lots more bone broth so I'm actually comfy w/ the amount he gets from that.

(On a side note, doing the ice cubes of concentrated bone broth has been awesome--I add it to everything! And I was noticing some joint pains [I think b/c we had not been doing lots of bone broth for about a month. Just laziness!] Within days of adding it in more regularly, I noticed a big difference--no more joint pains! )

Now that he's not mag deficient, and is back on dairy (and he drinks 12+oz of dairy a day, so quite a bit of calcium) - he actually pees out a lot LESS calcium. I think his body can use it effectively now that he has enough magnesium.
Mamafish, is there a thread that has the bulk your 'story' and healing journey in it? I'd love to read it if you do! That you got your babe back ON dairy is pretty awesome to me (it's the one thing I'd love ds to be able to do again, and see it as a possibility). I'm so interested in healing, and the input you've given me so far a/b detox pathways etc. has been so right on and helpful, I'd love to here more of what you have done! (I find all of you MDC mamas' stories so helpful and informative! )

Red Clover Blossoms are a good herbal source of Mo. Up until this past month I'd had extra RClover in my nutritive tea. Now that I'm supping folate I might want to add more RClover again...
What about sprouting red clover seeds and eating that?
They are tasty and sprouts are jam packed with goodness!

My "about him" thread is mostly about the metals issues and testing, I haven't updated it anytime lately to talk about getting dairy back, that mostly happened in the chat thread. I'd love to promise to update our "about me" thread soon, but you know how that goes . I'm really glad you've found help here in the forum, the mamas here are wonderful, and a big part of our successes.

Digging this thread up again.

I want to increase my copper (yeah, I know, I'm weird) and don't want to do the research of which supp is best. So I want to eat oysters and crab and lobster and calamari instead (no more pg-induced seafood aversion ).

And my iron is really REALLY low, so throw red meat and clams into the mix. Along with some herbal infusions/decoctions.

I'm desperate for potassium/electrolytes lately, so lots of veggies. I'm actually enjoying juicing, finally (it used to make me feel yucky), so I've been drinking my salads. Juicing veggies that I wouldn't otherwise eat raw weirds me out, though, so I'm avoiding those.

With all the juice, it seems I've finally found a way to reliably get folate from food, so I want to try to make that happen.

And once all those nutrients are figured out, I can slooooowly add in liver (the vit A seriously dehydrates me and makes me need a ton of electrolytes right now)

And suddenly I have a new set of food restrictions, but more of the sort of 'eat all these things.' And it starts to feel like a linear algebra problem And when I do math, I like a study group. So I'm posting. But I don't know if this is even a reasonable problem to solve, when you consider daily preferences, seasonal eating, practical availability and cost. But I feel like trying anyways right now...

Here goes!

FOLATE sources (from whfoods, filtered by what we can/will eat)

Juiceable: (~400mcg? need to weigh what I put in)
Romaine
Celery
Cucumber
Tomato
Carrots

Dinner: (100-200+mcg)
Asparagus
Collards
Beets
Broccoli
Artichoke
Liver

Lunch: (200-400mcg)
Lentils
Beans

Snacks: (<100mcg)
Avocado
Peanut butter

So now, it should be possible to mix and match from those categories to quickly make sure I'm getting enough? Hm... a color coded, multi-nutrient chart might be good next...

If you consume about 3 cups of any combination of beans, greens, legumes or liver, you hit about 400mcg, from my quick guess.
