BTW, I don't know where you're located or any farms in Utah, but I know the square foot gardening headquarters is in Eden, UT. I believe they have classes and community projects and such.

We have actually talked about the mystery "ghost frost" that comes across the back field and back field only.
Frost kills when dew covers leaves, then freezes, then the sun hits it.

I have garden beds on different parts of my property, and they fall to frost at different nights in the fall. My patio plants actually tend to be LATER in the process, I suspect because the bricks retain sun heat during the day and release that sun heat at night, creating a little microclimate that reaches just high enough to keep the dew from freezing. My small bed that is close to the house also holds out longer than you'd suspect, probably because there's concrete foundation directly behind it doing the same thing.

Something like this happened to one of my fellow community gardeners. Their plants looked just like that.

Happily, they grew back just like the OP's.

I'm sure it wasn't frost, since it didn't affect any of the other gardeners, including those with plots directly adjacent to the one where it happened.

My theory was that it had something to do with the compost in that case also. I used the same compost in parts of my plot, but not in the same quantity, and experienced negative effects that were not present in parts of my plot where I used different compost.
