Anyone know where to buy or how to make postpartum mama pads? I mean, the heavy duty ones for the weeks after birth or is it better to buy some disposable ones?

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

I used Mimi's Dreams postpartum pads the last two times- LOVE them. I also use her other sizes for everything else.

This is where I got them. They are by far the most comfy cloth pads I've ever found. I ended up converting my whole stash to hers

If you have time, and lots of flannel and old towels like I do.... http://www.tinybirdsorganics.com/org...clothpads.html i just made a bunch of those. I only made them to use as post-sex pantiliners
But you can make them as long as you want, I used my underwear as a reference for the shape/size. I love that it shows you how to make a pocket so that you can stick a huge soaker layer in there if you want.
The first 3 days after birth for me are usually super heavy and gross, so I'll just use adult diapers or whatever. But after that, I think I'll be using homemade cloth pads. Way cheaper and more comfortable than the plastic-y feeling ones I can buy in the store!

Thanks mrsrayray, I do have tons of fabric laying around. I think I will use disposables for the first couple of days too and then make some of these postpartum pads, maybe some inserts too and stuff them well for the first couple of weeks. I like that they are adjustable and you can take the stuffing out for lighter days (week 4-6).....

I'm buying mine from www.dominopads.com
www.homesteademporium.com makes awesome stuff too.
I wouldn't use disposables. There is the concern of them leaching more blood etc from your body. Plus they are huge and diaper like. It's not like it's terrible to have a few extra heavy pads around either.

you're welcome.
I'm all about having "free" pads, and they're cute too!

I use sposies for the first few days, then my normal cloth. Have to say, the sposies I get hold a lot and are almost flat so "huge" isn't really my personal experience. Now, the sposies they have at the hospital really are huge!
And of course the cloth feels a lot nicer...
Anyway, I go with a pack of "overnight heavy" sposies for the first few days, then my "heavy flow" cloth (luna pads, hag rags, and glad rags for the most part, also some I've made myself with a PUL layer) when I'm at home. I'll generally use the sposies when out and about since I tend to get a "gush" when getting out of the car and the sposies absorb this sort of sudden flow better than the cloth. But I'm not usually out and about that early pp so it isn't that often. And if the flow is really heavy and I'm just hanging out I'll sometimes fold over a prefold and use that. (prefolds folded and placed in the "shelf bra" of a maternity/nursing tank make good "heavy wetting" breast pads btw.)
