pumping - Page 2

Make sure you are drinking a TON, eating healthy and getting enough rest. I know if I don't do all 3 - I'll go from 30 oz a day down to 10.

OgirlieMama, it would be nice to see how others do it. The other thread is over 80 pages long and I do not have the time at the moment. My parents-in-law are coming from Europe for their first time and I do not want to spend the days pumping. I am inspired by your stamina. I want to know when I can go down to 4 times, that would make me so happy. I remember the days when I would get up at night multiple times to pump and then feed him. I was a zombie since sometimes I would pump in between his eating.

I totally understand not wanting to be chained to the pump when your ILs are visiting. I hated that feeling, especially because I felt like it drew attention to the downside of things (not being able to nurse) and that a lot of people just thought I was nuts for pumping for so long.

I have to find my 2nd notebook, but so far all I have in front of me is the first one, which covers the first 6 months. It looks like at 6 months, I was still doing 5 times a day, but occasionally did 4 pumps for a day or two with no loss of supply. I was pumping around 1650 mls per day, give or take 30-40. I have to imagine that by 9 months I could've been down to 4x/day at least for a little while before my supply dropped.

How much is he drinking per day at this point, and how much are you pumping? I'd think the combination of those numbers would give you an idea of whether you could try dropping a pump. If you want to PM me, feel free. I have a big freelance job going on right now and I'm not remembering to check my boards as often, but I get my PMs in email.

OGirlieMama,
PM coming tomorrow if I figure out how. Thanks for your input. That is exactly how I feel like a failed breastfeeder. Many people do think that I am nuts for doing it for 9 months and sometimes I am on their side.

I hear you.....pumping for my preemie too and its hard. So time consuming, and I have a 3 year old who is always doing something crazy the minute I get started. I'm going to try the sport bra idea!! Why didn't I think of that??

OUr problem is that she won't wake up. She needs to eat but after 5 hours she is still totally zonked out and I can't wake her for anything....so I pump, and then she wakes up, and I have no milk and have to give it to her in a bottle. Its very frustrating....but I've had a lot of people tell me that at or about her due date she will start wanting to eat more, so I really hope that's true.
