This morning I dug out my old stash from when I tried CDing Owen (now 13mo) when he was new. I have at least a couple dozen premium prefolds, already washed and ready to go. Also a half-dozen pristine, never-been-used Mother-ease Airflow covers in size M. Apparently before I got frustrated and quit I ordered the next size up in covers. So I will try these prefolds with the Mother-ease covers for a while and see how it goes.
Question - the premium prefolds that I have don't fit perfectly in the covers, lengthwise. I just folded down the extra in the front, is that what you all would do?
Also, I remember having problems early on with poo leaking out the edges and getting on the covers all the time. I'm hoping that won't be such a problem now that he's not exclusively bf, but is there a trick to getting the poo to stay in the prefold?
I also found a single Mother-ease One Size fitted diaper that I'll try out. What would be the advantages of this type of diaper?
And I found a couple of contoured Thirsties inserts (I can't find them on their website so maybe they don't make them anymore?). I believe these are hemp. I'm not sure what to do with them, though. Will they work like a contour diaper if I just tuck them inside a cover? (I'm thinking they could be nice and slim-fitting for going out and about.) I have a vague notion that while hemp is super absorbent it doesn't absorb instantly.... ? So maybe it would be best to use them between a prefold and a cover for extra absorbency, like at night-time?
What would you add to my little stash to make it bullet-proof for going out and for night-time?
