Alpine strawberries grow like wildfire in partial shade! Blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries also do well. Herbs, too -- we're putting in some decorative herb gardens (bordered with rocks, English-garden-style) along the shadier parts of our partial-shade areas. There's a lot you can do if you get at least a few hours of sun a day.

It's not exactly gardening, but someday I'm going to get into raising fish in ornamental ponds (though probably not until our littlest ones are out of toddlerhood).
Lots of small woodland perennials do well in the shade. We have a portion of our land that is in deep shade, and we're turning it into a fairyland for our girls -- periwinkle and bleeding heart along the edges, fringed with clumps of ferns and wild violets, with some open space for running around, possibly a fountain or rock pool of some kind, and a corner for fairy houses.
