In Home Child Care?

I'm going through a major life change, (divorce, moving to a new state, etc) and I'd like to be able to stay home with my children.

I'm interested in learning about running a small in home daycare. Does anyone do this? Have any book recommendations or links I can research?

I'm not sure where to start as to classes and such. I'm in Tx now, moving to San Diego CA area this summer.

Thank you!!

I was able to find good books about starting a family daycare at the library. You can google and find the licensing laws for your state.

Here is a good place to start: http://nrckids.org/STATES/states.htm Just select your state. Here's the relevant section for family daycare in CA: http://nrckids.org/STATES/CA/california.htm Click on chapter 3 Family Child Care Homes

thanks

to you both!! I didn't find too many books at the library, but I'm hoping to check half price books to see if they might have any.

You're welcome. In case you haven't read that part yet, both of your children will be counted along with the dc kids as part of your quota of kids. I don't think that you will find much beyond information about running a home business in books. Which you should research as well. You will need to know how to keep books and records.

Whether your children are counted in your total depends on their age. Here, it's if your kids are under 6.

In CA, children under the age of 10 living in the home are included in the number of children. (page 5). A small family child care home can have up to 8 children, if 2 or more are over age 6 with one adult. No more than 2 of the children can be under the age of 2 (until their 2nd birthday, the state of CA considers them infants) when there are 8 children. Otherwise it's 4 infants with no other children or 3 infants with 3 children between 2-6 (page 36).
