products for getting matts out

my husband likes our lhasa apso to have long hair. usually, i can stay on top of it with regular brushing.... but suddenly she has some serious matts.

i have the tools (matt breaker, etc...), but i was wondering if there are any products that help with detangling.

I always loved quicker slicker. It is usually sprayed on, but we used to use it in the bath and hydrosurge it on....at home I would put it on while the dog was still very wet and work it in real well before starting to towel dry. It is also amazing at getting thick undercoat out

I love Cowboy Magic. You can get it at saddle shops. I mix it with water and rub it in the mats and the just come right out. Put it in a spray bottle with water or else use it straight and then add some water by hand.

I also love Mars Coat Kings. I use those to get really tough mats out all the time. They have blades, so be careful, but the blades are bent so that the sharp edges are not really "out" there. They work great. For a Lhasa, get one with wider teeth.

ETA: Pantene conditioner works great, too. A lot of handlers use that on their show dogs. You can put it in during the bath and not rinse it out of the hair all the way. It works really well.
