If your diapers smell clean I would not change because someone else at another board said something. Diapers stain -- its part of diapering. But if they are smelling clean -- you have success! An occasional stipping is necessary for all diaper build up -- it too is just part of the process.

For a totally CD safe detergent, you can try Country Save. I use and really love it for diapers and clothes and it relatively inexpensive. We all have very sensitive skin and it has been great.

Just a thought,

We used tide regular with DD1's FB and never had a problem...we used 1/4 oxi clean as well with the hot wash as well as baking soda. They were always clean, stain free and DD1 never had a rash (she had rashes with sposies which is why we switched). We use ALL free on our clothing, but I was told not to use a free and clear on my pocket dipes so never have.

We are now using the tide regular and baking soda with DD2's dipes but not the oxi clean unless we need it later.

As for stains, sunning clean wet dipes are the best way to get them out, we have NO stains on DD1's dipes.

It's amazing the differences you'll hear. One person says Never use a free and clear and the next says Never use a normal det and the next says Never use a natural det. I think it's all personal preference as everyone's skin sensitivity and washing machines are different. So try different ones and then just stick to what works for you no matter what anyone else says!

I often see people saying that you shouldn’t use any “free and clear” detergents on diaper laundry. This seems counter-intuitive, since the fragrance in the regular versions often irritates the skin. Dermatologists often recommend “All Free Clear” to their patients (that is the brand “All“, not all free and clear detergents.) So what the heck?

The confusion is that the brand “All Free Clear” has a fungicide in it that kills mold and other beasties, because people who have allergies often react to molds and dander and mites. This fungicide and microbicide (ingredients that kill fungi and leeeeetle animals) can build up in the diapers and cause repelling. Not all free and clear detergents contain this. Are you seeing the confusion between saying the brand “All Free Clear” and just all free and clear detergents? The telephone game is alive and well on the internet!

You can use other brands of free and clear detergents on your diapers. People like Purex free and clear, but it contains optical brighteners which can cause buildup and bind to your skin. Tide Free doesn’t have optical brighteners but does have enzymes, which can cause irritation. But either of these might work for you.
