Ideas for dd's birthday party?

DD is going to be four and wants a birthday party. We were going to do a local aquatic place that has an awesome kids area, but they are all booked . We really don't want to do a park because it will be June in the deep South and everyone will melt or get heat stroke

I am not a fan of Chuck E Cheese or the like because it seems so chaotic for my pretty mellow dd... I don't know if she would enjoy herself.

We can't afford to rent a place, and even if we could, I am just opposed to spending like $500 for a 4yo's birthday party.

It is looking like we may have it here, but we rent an apartment, so it isn't as though we could have a fun backyard-kiddie-pool-sprinkler-bbq or something (which would be cool with dd and with us). I would feel incredibly awkward asking anyone else to use their space. My best friend is the only one I would ever ask, but she lives about 50 miles away now, and no one is going to wanna drive that....

I belong to a mama's group but if I have it here I will have to be selective with who we invite (space) and I don't want that to cause any hard feelings -- though there are some women I haven't even met in the group, so they will understand (I would hope) not getting an invite.

I know I sound like Debbie Downer and I am really not, I just want to explain the situation entirely, lest someone suggest something we had already thought about.

Gah, any ideas mamas? Her birthday is quickly approaching (in about a month).

Thanks!

How about a local struggling for new clients dance studio? The instructor can teach them a hip-hop routine and then do a show for the parents, meanwhile parents are setting up cake in another room.

Turn you apt. into a pajama party maybe even a drop-off party for an hour with a few adult supervisors then adults & kids do cake & ice cream right near the end.

I would do it in the park in the morning like 10 am. Bring water balloons and a water table and let the kids have fun. If they have a hookup for a hose even better. Are there any spray/splash parks around?

Does your apartment complex have a community area? Our's has a room that you can reserve at no cost, and even has a small kitchenette area. Great place for a party.

Our complex has a clubhouse, but just for show apparently - I asked and they don't allow get-togethers of any kind there. Weird.

I think we decided to just have it here, with a beach theme. We can clear off the porch (put our bikes in my and dh's room), and put a few other things in there to widen the space.

We were considering a park but the weather is so iffy that time of year (very hot and sometimes rainstorms at a moment's notice).
