Any experience refusing an induction at 42 weeks? Update post #22 - Page 2

I hope the sweep works for you!

It worked for me with my 2nd, though it took over 72 hours for things to kick into gear.

So...monitoring this AM. The baby looks good, AFI is still good. The MW checked me again, I'm now a very stretchy 2 (she said she can actually stretch to three, but it's definitely 2+) and my cervix is "very soft" now...which is good progress from Monday. I had her do the membrane sweep which was not nearly as painful as I expected. As far as ratings go, she was probably one of the most gentle internal exams I've had...nice.

But the bad news is that they really would prefer for me to start the induction on Friday night. I can go w/ cervadil overnight and then we'll see if that puts me into labor (it did w/ DD, so she said my chances of it working this time w/out pitocin are even better). Still...otherwise, she said I can do what I want and just made me aware of the risks...if I refuse the induction on Friday, I'll have to sign a form saying that I'm doing so AMA.

If the membrane sweep doesn't work...I am leaning towards waiting until Monday anyway for the induction, despite the whole AMA thing. But...DH and I still have to talk about it some more.

So that's the update, baby's still great, I'm great, making some (slow) progress (hey! 2+ is better than 1.5!). Pray for labor to start tonight - especially since I really like the MW who will be on call this evening)!!

Sounds good!

Can I (gently) suggest DTD tonight, if possible? If the membrane sweep gets things started, DTD can only help that, IMO. Kinda like a ball once it starts rolling downhill a little...a little bit of wind can start really making it go and be the factor in whether it stops or continues going.

Good luck!

You don't have to sign a darn thing! It really bugs me when doctors/midwives portray that stuff as compulsory. Do not sign it - it can hurt you legally in all kinds of ways later, like if they do something completely stupid during your induction that creates a problem entirely unrelated to you being postdates!!!!

That said, if I knew I was planning to consent to it on Monday anyhow, I would go ahead and let them start on Friday, because why the heck not? If it gets to be 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon and they suddenly start telling you that you need a c-section, well, you know enough to give them a great big middle finger on THAT one.

Thanks for the advice about the AMA form...I hadn't thought of that. This is why I love this place!
