Do you think a food...

that made you feel awful when you were pregnant means that the baby is likely intolerant? When I was pregnant coconut oil made me feel awful - tired, nauseaus and just plain crappy. But now I started eating it again and I am wondering if that is a good idea while I am bfing.

Isn't coconut oil a yeast killer? And you're especially yeasty during pregnancy... so maybe it was just die-off symptoms making you feel crappy? Just a guess.

FWIW, I've never seen a correlation between what I crave or what makes me feel ill during pregnancy and what my kids are intolerant to. Thank goodness. If that was the case, this LO about to be born would be doomed.

I agree with Jacqueline. I was reacting to corn while pg with my corn allergic dd, but I never correlated it. Eating it didn't bother me (my problem was eczema).

I was EXTREMEMLY disgusted by eggs when pregnant with DS1 and eggs are his most serious allergy. I wouldn't even call it an aversion, I couldn't be in a restaurant if eggs were served, I could smell them a mile away. And I like eggs. With DS2 I was so surprised that I didn't have the same aversion....DS2 has no allergies.

Could be a coincidence but I've always thought it was related.

This is a very interesting question. I don't know if I reacted to any foods when pregnant with DD but she has severe intolerances to dairy, eggs, and citrus (to a lesser extent).

I'm 15 weeks pregnant and reacting to bananas (small oozing bumps on the backs of my hands), orange juice (eczema patches on the backs of my hands), and corn (facial acne). I'm 100% dairy and egg free. No more aversions (but I didn't eat chicken for about a month).

It's interesting because there is also the theory that foods mama ate in large quantities during pregnancy are the foods most likely to cause problems for baby via leaky gut, baby reacting to proteins during pregnancy and while BF, etc. This seems to be true for us, as a lot of the things DS has a problem with are the foods I tended to crave, and consume a lot of, in pregancy. This also goes along with the theory that the foods are person cannot process well are likley to be the ones she craves, e.g. the gluten senitive person craving wheat breads, the sugar-sensitive person craving sweets, etc.

Here is my experience with this:

When I was pg with my oldest dd, I craved peanuts all the time. In general, I rarely eat nuts & peanuts are about my least favorite. But we hardly have a picture of me pg with her where I don't have a can of peanuts in my hand. And she is ana to peanuts. That is her only food allergy.

With my 2nd dd, I really had no cravings & actually didn't eat all that much. She has no food allergies.

In my last pg with my ds, I craved milk & all dairy. I'd eat yogurt for breakfast, cereal for lunch & had a bowl of ice cream every single night. I was obsessed with drinking milk. It was crazy! Now he reacts to lots of foods with dairy being the worst.

*IF* I have another baby, I will try to ignore those cravings & rotate my food choices. I will never indulge in pg cravings AGAIN!!!!
