Substitution for lard in pie crust?

Because I'm lazy (and don't want to go to the store and haven't rendered my own lard) could I use cold butter or coconut oil?

Butter for savory and CO for sweet?

TIA!

Oh, I'm making chicken pot pie.

I've never used anything but butter in any sort of pie crust.

I would use coconut oil. But then mine isn't sweet, it has a neutral flavor actually. If you have butter, go for it. Only thing I had heard not to use in pie crust is margarine

Thanks!! I have only made one pie crust in my life with the help of my mom.

My CO is unrefined and definitely has a coconut flavor, DH would not be pleased

Butter for sure! Lard gives a wonderful texture and butter gives a great taste. The best pastry is half lard and half butter but either one of the two on thier own is delicious too.
