Rock and Roll Party Favours

My son's birthday party is this weekend with a rock and roll theme, and I'm trying to figure out what to do for party favours... stuff to give out to the attending kids (about 6 kids coming).

My son is turning 11 and the kids range in age from 7 to 12. So maybe I should cross post this in "Childhood Years" too lol...

Anyway, in previous years we've given out little craft kit kinds of things, we like to : and not just give out cheap junk but something actually useful. Any ideas for food treats, music-related knick-knacks, or other cool items to hand out as loot bag stuff?

Oh, and by 'rock and roll' we mean everything, not like specifically golden oldies, but metallica (DS's current favourite) and Green Day and blues music and everything in between. They'll be playing Rock Band and Guitar Hero at the party heh...

Oy, I've also got to come up with a cake design... I already made him an electric guitar cake when he turned 5 or 6, and last summer I made a Guitar Hero cake for a relative (the cake was the GH video fret board with notes coming down it that made the tune for "Happy Birthday" teehee...)... those were my best ideas! I need something new!

Do you really need a new cake idea? I've been doing an electric guitar for ds1 for...about 6 years or so, and he'd be really upset if I did something else...

I like the CD idea. There are also guitar/bass keychains...umm...pencils with keyboard designs on them...

I used to have music-related novelties memorized, but I can't think of any of them right now...

I like the CD idea...Maybe you could take pictures of them playing Rockband/Guitar Hero and print them out and let them "autograph" them and put them in cheap frames..

Just had another fun idea...Maybe get a group picture, and have them come up with a band name, and get those iron on t-shirt transfers and make band shirts?

You guys are great! I love the tattoo idea, and the shirt idea... that might be a bit of a project, but you know what? Last year, I bought a bunch of blank tshirts in funky colours to use as a craft project for his TENTH birthday party (they would decorate themselves) but we didn't have time. This bag of shirts and shirt decorations are still in a bag in my craft closet!

I should dig them out, see if they'd be the right sizes, etc, and get some of those tshirt transfers. The photo idea *is* really cool. In fact, these kids have previously talked about forming a band together (they all play some kind of rock band instrument, except for his cousin -- the only girl -- who plays violin but can be the singer too lol), I think they even already have a name.

As for music pencils and stuff, I'm actually a piano teacher... I have TONS of those lying about lol... And yet I didn't even think of that. Or all the music-related stickers I have.

Still undecided on the cake. The electric guitar cake *was* really cool, though it was a lot of work... I made the shape template from scratch, I'd have to do it all over again... And it's harder to incorporate "11" into it than "6" -- each string was one year, and the candles were on the tuning pegs!

Hm, I should count fret dots... maybe there's 11 of those...

I could do it in a different colour than 5 years ago too lol... I made it in red (red frosting is a b!t@h to make...) but the guitar he now owns is white. Much easier!!! Lol...
