Ideas Cooking class at my son's school - HELP!! :)

I volunteered last week to teach a small group of students in my son's class about cooking. I thought that I would find some great idea on the internet showing me what to do, but have not found anything yet.

Does anyone have any ideas? My ds is in 2nd grade and I have 45 minutes with the students. I don't think that any cutting with knives would be appropriate and I will not have any way to actually heat anything. There is also a boy in the class with a severe peanut allergy. Anyone have any suggestions?

I am considering making some sort of yogurt parfait with fruit and yogurt - it would teach them about measuring ingredients at least. I feel like that is not really "cooking", but am stumped as to what else I could do.

The other thing I thought about is bringing in a baked loaf of bread and then showing them how to mix and knead the dough. What do you think?

One idea I had:

No bake cookies:

2 1/2 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup powdered sugar
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2/3 cup butter, softened
bowl of powdered sugar

DIRECTIONS
1.In a large bowl, combine the oats, sugar and cocoa. With clean hands, mix in the water, vanilla and butter to form a dough. Wash hands, then roll the dough into balls 1 to 2 inches in diameter. Roll balls in confectioners' sugar until thickly coated (or they will become crusty). Chill 20 minutes before serving. (pretty optional if kiddos want to scarf them down immediately!)

This would be a great time to incoporate "local" eating and explaining how buying produce (and other products) from far away - especially out of season - is more expensive because of the energy costs to transport the products to you versus buying something grown closer to you.

It could be a little mathematics and science lesson in one!

Could you bring in a blender and make smoothies or milkshakes. You could use table knives to cut strawberries, bananas etc.
