I don't get it....

Thread Starter
I have had a couple of different people tell me that they "did research" before they decided to circ, and then in the next breath tell me that proper intact care is to retract and clean under a newborn's foreskin!

What in the world? What kind of research did they do if they obviously know nothing about one of the most basic facts of the foreskin?

Do people go to the most biased, inaccurate, pro-circ website or book that they can find and then call that "research?"

Amazing, huh?!?!? When people are set on something the tendency is to find info that supports your goal. I think it is always good to ask people questions when they say that they did the research. Oh really, so what is the proper care of an intact penis? What is the proper care of the newly circumcised penis? What are the medical and sexual benefits to being intact? Usually you get a blank look.

I'm guessing they didn't research very much.

They're lying probably, because even the aap says not to do that so I think they are full of it.

I have found that most of the time the "research" they did consisted of talking to a few people IRL about it. Considering how ignorent most people are on this subject then of course they are hearig circ is best.

they are lying, if they responded like that probably they didn't do any research at all

Yeah I had that Ds was NOT supposed to be circed and the hospital did so anyways I found out I could have sued but thought I would not bable to afford an atty but then 5 years later find out that they do it for free and scould have Ds had many problems from the circ also

Well talking to a mommy friend this came up and she said well I circed my boys for heath reasons she also goes on to say that you need to use a q tip and clean under the forskin at least once a day or after every BM that the baby makes until they are potty learned : I go dear ummm no that is not right then went on to explain.... She looked at me she goes I feel so bad i did that to them. She just heard this through word of mouth no research but she also just got her first computer about a year ago and her youngest is 11 so I can see why she knew nothing.

What? How old is your son? Is there a statute of limitations in your state for this? If so and it's passed, I'd like to encourage you to discuss a lawsuit brought by your son when he's old enough.
Even if I thought circumcision was a good thing (I don't), I'd still be horrified to know surgery was performed on your baby without your consent. I work in a hospital and we have safeguards in place to prevent this. This type of incident is a hospitals worst nightmare. I'm so sorry this happened and I strongly encourage you to contact the lawyers at ARC if you haven't already.

Per the new forum guidlines:

It is our wish that The Case Against Circumcision be an informative and welcoming space for those who are new to the subject of circumcision. This is not a space to bash others. In an effort to minimize language which might alienate those seeking information, we are cautious about using pejorative terms such as abuse, barbarism, mutilation, etc. when routinely discussing circumcision. Let the facts speak for themselves.
Therefore I am closing this thread.
