long hair.... need style help!

k so my hair is pretty long .. down past my bra strap almost to my elbows. right now all i do is put it in a pony tail flippy thing or a claw clippy. i was going to say my biggest problem is that its hot.. but in reality my biggest problem is that i mess with it alll dayyy longgg. it is strait and thin and falls out of my pony tail holder.. or if it put it to tight and up high it gives me a head ache. i think im giving my self back problems taking it in and out of the pony tail and clip all day.

i love having it long but i cant leave it down all day it gets in the way. i am sort of hair stupid. i cant even really do a french braid. is there anything i can do that will keep it out of my face, off my neck, and still be secure? i usually wear a scarf or something when i go out but at home when i am cleaning and chasing ds my hair makes me hot and constantly playing with it is driving me nuts. lol i really dont want to cut it so do you have any good hairstyle suggestions for someone who cant even manage a french braid?

Here is something that takes the headache out of long hair.
You will need a large barrett, that will hold all your hair, and a set of the little claw clips. I think they are about 1/3 of an inch?
Clip all your hair in a ponytail, and then gently twist your hair around the clip into a bun.
Place the claws evenly around the bun to hold it on place.
Picture here of how I have done mine in the past.

You could practice hair taping. It takes all the stress off one spot and distributes it. I'm not sure your hair is long enough for the crown braid, but you could try.

I do a nautilus bun quite a lot. I secure it with a scrunchie, but amish-style hairpins work, too.

There are a lot of how-to videos on youtube. This woman, in particular, is pretty easy to follow:

My hair's about the same length as yours!

-I do a bun with a pencil or hair stick quite a bit.
-I do pigtails when I'm out doing something active, b/c it keeps it off my neck and doesn't get tangled.
-I'm slooowly learning to french braid it (it can be done!) and I'm pleased with that so far.

I used to like this forum for long hair care and style ideas: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/

How about a figure-8 bun? http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to/vi...-8-bun-238141/ You can probably find more tutorials online, but that one is pretty simple and held with just a hairstick.

Also, check these hair clips out (and hairstyle ideas): http://ficcare.com/videos.aspx I have one and enjoy it, but my hair isn't quite as long as yours.

I have hair down to my waist and if my DS even thinks he sees it he grabs for it to pull it out of my head.... so my solution is hairsticks I LOVE hairsticks they dont hurt your hair, with hair as long as your you should be able to do a few styles. Like an above poster said longhaircommunity.com is a great site they have tons of styles to do with your hair. I do a knot most often its called celtic knot (sp?) here is a link to a video, but im not sure if it will help much you might have more luck searching for yourself.

You can do a bun like paula's with just hair pins too, like a ballerina.

I love the suggestions, but if you want to do ponytails, maybe it's your ponytail holder. I have long, fine, thick hair, and I have to use thick covered elastics or they won't hold my hair. Anything thinner or if the elastic has started to give out, my ponytail will start sliding out, driving me crazy. Claire's is the best place I've found for those really thick pt holders.

I donated my long hair and it feels great! http://www.locksoflove.org/
My hair is still long enough to pull up, but I do not have headaches any more.

I was going to say that!!! I have donated twice my one friend he startd to grow his in 2000 and he donated in 2005 he said it was a breath of fresh air he said he could breath and that his headaches went away! and he was able to donate two wigs!!!! I am not very into short hair because all I ever did with my long hair was a ponytail, braided pigtails, a bun thingy, and that was it never down or anything and my hair is soooooooooo thick that I love to keep it short it is freeing and so simple to do I get short hair haircut magazines and fing a non trendy cut that is girly and fun and take it in to my hairdresser and love it!

watch out for locks of love - they are NOT a good organization. they sell most of their hair. they have given very few wigs out over the years and they have charged for them. they are not in compliance with the Better Business Bureau. You can do a google search and find out more. And really, children do not need human hair wigs as they are too hard to take care of for active ones. so enjoy your hair and donate your time or money.

Yes, this. :

I like the figure-8 bun with a pretty hairstick, but my hair is past my waist.
