we totally have a big enough crate. We have a huge one that has like a divider in it that can come out. Dh was concerned about making the crate big because then he might poop in it. But lets give it a try!

What is a chi?

My dog is a rat terrier. 12 lbs.

That's exactly what I mean. He's a small guy and should have a very small crate. Your DH is right on. If he's got too much room he'll poop in it. No need to make it bigger.

Ooops, sorry, he's a rat terrier? He looked like a chihuahua mix to me. We had a chi mix growing up who looked a lot like him. Still very small guy. His crate should just be big enough for him to turn around.

Yes, the crate should be really, really small. Only big enough for him to walk in and turn around and lie down. Or stand up and eat. USE the divider.

Rat terriers..chis... all very small dogs. And terriers are really stubborn and can be hard to housetrain, too. So keep at it. And feed and water only in the crate.
