Butter substitute?

Thread Starter
I'm trying to find a dairy/soy free butter substitute. Everything that is on the typical list of "safe" I'm finding the little bit of soy in it...that spectrum (Sp?) stuff was supposed to be "the one".
Any ideas? Aside from not ever baking my girls again?

Not sure where I read this- maybe at www.godairyfree.com ?
Earth Balance "buttery" spread has come out with a soy-free version. It's not widely available (only Whole Foods, I think), but it will be!
Otherwise, we use Spectrum Organic Shortening for baking. My kids aren't crazy about coconut oil.

It's a little late now, but you can also find Kosher margarine around Passover which is dairy and soy free.
I'm eagerly awaiting the new Earth Balance as well.

I've actually been liking using coconut oil instead of butter in my baking. I think it adds a yummy hint of coconut to baked goods.

Not sure where you live but if you're on the east coast and have a Wegman's nearby, they sell Mother's margarine which is dairy & soy free.

I second coconut oil. Spectrum Palm oil shortening is good too. For savoury things you could use lard. And ghee might be an option, it has been clarified so there is no more casien/milk protien left.
