so these are some of my favorite books in the world. i read them over and over and over again. i was wondering if anyone else has read them. did you like them? do you recommend them to people? i have rec. them to a few people but it is always hard since they are so erm.. graphic. i really hope someone else has read them and enjoyed them b.c i would love to talk to people about them.

I have a LOT of Anne Bishop, and I started with the Black Jewels Trilogy. My copies are seriously in tatters from all the rereading. I'm lucky enough to have friends that are ok with the dark/graphic subject matter, so I have recommended them, and hooked a good number of people.

I don't usually hang out here, but I saw your title and was glad some other MDC mamas (or at least one!) read them. I do recommend her other books, too, though. Some of them are a little less plot INTENSIVE.

i have read everything she has written with the exception of seraphina (i think thats what its called) my two best friends both love them as well but we have yet to convince many others. my mother read it but i had to sort of coach her through the first book.

i got the shadow queen a day or so after it came out and i am already ready for the next one! mine are totally in tatters too. i have gone through muliple copies of the paper back trilogy. i should probably stop reading it in the bathtub i did a search on MDC b/c i was sure there would be a thread or something but almost nothing came up!! i couldn't believe it.

I have a friend who adores them.

They were too "dark" for me.

lol i think they are to dark for some people ... the first book esp. turns some people off. whenever i recommend them to people i tell them that they have to get passed the first book before deciding b/c it gets slightly less horrifying after that.

I'm intriuged. Scared that dark, graphic and intense intriuge me, but intrigued nonetheless. Lol.

I'll give it a whirl and come back...

One question...is the "political" theme strong? I mean, is there a lot of power struggle that's politics based?
I don't mind power stuggles, but when they're too heavily based on politics I get turned off.

ETA: Geez, the internet reviews on this book are strongly similar to Twilight. In the "you either totally hate it or totally love it" sense.

I initially was not interested because you described them as so dark.
However now I am also intrigued and think I'll give them a try.
My local library only has "Belladonna". I'd have to order the other ones. Would that be an okay one to start with? I know it is not part of the trilogy.

Belladonna is the second book in a different series. Or maybe it's a duology?
If you can read Sebastian first, try to do that so you don't get lost.

I love the Black Jewels trilogy and all her books & stories set in that world. I like her other works too, but those are among my most favorite stories! Mine have fallen apart and been replaced twice. My husband liked them too, but he doesn't like any of Anne Bishop's other writings. It's funny to find this thread, because just this week I had to push my SIL into finishing the first book because she just couldn't get into the first chapter, but I knew she'd love it and she did.

This trilogy is sitting on my shelf collecting dust. A friend lent it to me and I just cannot get into it. I tired forcing myself through but it's not happening. I can handle dark and twisty but there is just something I dislike about the writing.

But then I couldn't get into the Pern novels either which she also lent me so maybe she's got the unmagic touch...lol.

These are listed on one of the fantasy threads.

I was going to check them out from the library but the books don't clearly state what order they are in so I checked out Juliet Marillier's Sevenwaters books instead.

I will have to make sure I have the precise book names written down next time I go to the library.

I read the trilogy based on this thread. I really enjoyed it, although it was tough to get through the first half of the first book. Thanks for bringing it up!

So, I'm getting through the first half of the first book and so far I really like it.
Haven't found it hard to get into at all....harder to put down when I gotta come back to work, really.

Was gonna start earlier, but I had to wait for it come in to the bookstore (really small town here) after our vacation.

I have read Belladonna- though not sure about it being from this series. I really liked this book. Now I am off to the library to see if I can find the rest of the books.

Alright I finished reading the first book of the triliogy, Daughter of the Blood.
I really, really enjoyed it and can't wait to start Heir....

Thanks for the recommendation!!

After reading this thread several weeks ago, I picked up Daughter of the Blood at the library and was completely engaged. Then I put it down for a few days and never got back to it. I would like to finish it, and can't really explain how it went from "can't put it down" to "meh" in just a couple of days.

I can't find the first one at my library!

I am going to have to get one from another branch.

I checked out the entire series at the library on your recommendation - you better not let me down! I'm halfway through Daughter of Blood and liking it so far.

I keep running across this thread, so I finally decided to reserve the first book at the library. There's a pretty big waiting list, I'll let you know what I think of it when I finally make it to the top of the list.
