Can I prep hemp and unbleached prefolds together?

I have about a dozen UBPF and 3 hemp inserts to prep. Can I do them together or do I have to do them separately?

Also, can I prep bleached prefolds with microfiber inserts?

You can. The hemp will require more prepping though because of the oils on it. So, you will need to wash it a little more.

Though I don't think it should require that many more washes with the hemp since it does take more washes with unbleached prefolds than with the bleached (though I do prefer unbleached ) to be fully prepped.

My resident CD expert instructed me to boil my hemp inserts (I had 4) because she said it takes about 20 washes compared to the 6 washes prefolds take. I boiled mine for 20 minutes

Awesome, thanks everyone. I don't want to prep just a dozen prefolds, KWIM? I'd rather have a little more in each load.

Oy! Ok, I'll boil the inserts after I put them in the washer once. I was planning on boiling them at some point anyway. 20 washes is a lot!

20 washes is a bit extreme and not necessary for basic Hemp prep. Boil if you may, but three hot wash and 3 hot dry should do the trick to beginning stages of wearing. I work with hemp daily, really 20 is a bit over the top.

With that small amount in the wash I would feel comfortable washing together as long as the wash cycle is full of water and not running on a low water cycle.

I agree that 20 washes is probably not necessary, but if you are able to boil them, it certainly does speed up the process.
