Had my Cervix "Moved"

Had my 39 wk appt today and it was one where I was required to have an internal. OB said my cervix was pointed to the left so he was going "move" it back into position where it should be. I have been crampy, felt pressure, and my back aches all day now. Said I might have bleeding but been lucky not to yet it that I have noticed.

Has anyone else had their cervix "moved" back? It was not comfy to say the least as he started putting his knuckles up there too.

I am hoping all this either stops or actually turns itself into labor since EDD is 4 days away and in 8 days he will want to talk induction which freaks me out.

Time to hop in the shower and see if that helps my back ache, LM

I haven't heard of it moving directions (left or right), but mine is WAY back there, and my MW today said that she actually pulled it down a bit...so weird. ;-)

Good luck!

Ew.
That sounds terrible. I think I'd have had a hard time not to kick him in the face.

Um... ouch?! I haven't had an internal to check things out yet, and I can't say I've ever heard of this, but I do hope it gets things moving along for you!

Decided to check today for myself to see if I could feel anything. If I am feeling the correct thing then it seems like my cervix is back to the left some. Not sure how this effects things so we shall see.

Hm. Sounds if-fy to me. Once the cervix is dilated there isn't really a direction anymore anyway, so it doesn't much matter which way it was pointed originally. That's how I understand it, because I have an anterior cervix and it didn't need to be repositioned for my vbac.

I picture the cervix somewhat like a putting on a turtleneck sweater where to begin, the neck is pulled up tight together above your head. At first it is long and taut and then it softens and then gets shorter as your head moves toward the opening and then once then head pushes as far up as it can, then there really isn't any 'neck' part left, because it is stretched over your face. So it shouldn't really matter which way the 'neck' flops or points when it is long and tight.

Feel free to correct this image.

(I asked about this in detail after my vbac, because I wondered why my paps always seemed to take so long and be more uncomfortable than my freinds' paps. Well, it turns out that with an anterior cervix, most gps are looking 'the wrong way' and so now I know to tell them to look the other way and things go much more smoothly.)

But good luck to you! Maybe 'moving' the cervix helps reduce the risk of having a 'lip' that just doesn't dilate ... I've heard of some mamas having that issue.

Hope the backache goes away soon.
