Help with lanolizing

Hi All - I am planning on shrinking a few nice wool blankets and cutting them up and using them for crib puddle pads. can anyone explain to me how exactly to lanolize them? i'd rather do it in the washer (we have a HE front loader) since they're not going to be small like a diaper cover - but could try to do it in the bathtub if i have to. I have Lansinoh that i was hoping to use for this. i know i read a thread that referred to doing this, but i can't find the right one, which had specific directions. thanks!

LOL, it has been YEARS since I CD'ed, but this was at the top of "new posts" and I had to answer!

When I lanolized many years ago, I used to dissolve abotu a TBSP of lanolin in hot water in a cup. I would fill the sink with warmest water I could get. Then I would put the cover in and gently move it around to get it all wet and submerged. Added the lanolin and stirred it with a spoon I set the timer for one hour.

Then I would come back and rinse the wool cover in cold water thoroughly and then put it in the washer just for a spin cycle- no water or agitation.

Hang/lay out to dry.

Worked like a charm for me!

I would first shrink/felt the blankets and then cut them to the size you need and then lanolize.

So I've felted (shrunk in washer) my first wool blanket, and am planning on cutting it to size for the crib...but obviously that still won't fit in a regular sink, and I don't have a utility sink - so if I were to do the lanolizing in the tub...how much would lanolin would you think i'd need to use? or does anyone have any experience with lanolizing in the washer (with a front loader?)

thanks!!
