Seizures, sigh.

My dachshund had a really bad seizure today, It lasted about 20 mins and it was SO bad I was scared we were going to lose him. This is his 3rd one during his 3 years of life.

At first...He walked up to my feet and started acting weird. I knew a seizure was coming on. Then, he started to curl up his back legs and walk on his FRONT legs. Like he was possessed. It was seriously scary. After about 10 min of that, it just turned into a 'normal' seizure...just laying on the ground flopping around. I did what I could to hold him and to keep him from hurting himself. My dog isn't under any stress at all...He has a whole acre of land to run on, gets to play all day and he has a doggy door to come into the air conditioned laundry room to rest when he gets tired during the day and I put him up at night.

I've taken him to the vet, but they told me it's just common for dogs in general to have seizures and he wouldn't really worry about it unless it was happening more often than that. The only thing he has had as far as vaxes go are his puppy shots, and then he got vaxed for kennel cough once when we went on vacation and had to kennel him.

I'm just hoping to get some advice.

When were the other two seizures? If they are becoming more frequent I would want to do some tests and possibly start medicating. The way I understand it each seizure makes additional ones more likely because they sort of "carve out" pathways in the brain.

Here is a website that seems to have good info on canine epilepsy: http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-...m/site_map.htm
