Rash/chafing around legs

DD has developed a rash around her legs where her diaper sits . I thought maybe the diapers had some detergent build-up b/c she had a little bit of a rash on her vulva, too, but after stripping, and drying in the sun, the rash on her vulva cleared up immediately. The chafing around her legs is still there, though...feels kind of scaly. I don't have an cloth-friendly rash cream at the moment; all I have is Butt Paste (using with liners), but even that isn't doing anything. She was in disposables recently because we were all sick and the rash cleared up immediately. I've been letting her go coverless for the majority of the past few days, but still no improvement.

Any suggestions?

My first thought is maybe the diapers are too tight around the legs? I had a few covers that were getting small and we were getting the most awful red marks around DD's legs. If that's not it, I have no idea!

I agree - my first thought is poor fit.

What kind of diaper is it?

I use a variety of diapers: FBs, Motherease Sandies, and prefolds. It even seems to flare up with the prefolds, though. Could it be a sudden sensitivity to PUL? Or maybe the cover is too tight? But, the cover has to be snug enough to keep the diaper in. Hmmm....

Does she crawl or even just kick and bicycle her legs? As soon as my dd started doing these things, the simple friction of the diaper against her legs caused this. I put some Aquaphor or lanolin on the rough spots and they go away in half a day.

Yes! She has recently started crawling. Can I use lanolin or aquaphor with cloth diapers?

Just call me Sherlock.

We have never had a problem with it. I use Aquaphor on those spots (I don't glop it on or anything) and my diapers haven't had any problems.

Thanks! This is why I love MDC . And, the rash is already showing signs of clearing up after only a few hours with a little lanolin applied!

Oh, good! FWIW, I got this with any cover, even wool. Once I started using the Aquaphor, the dry dead skin would peel off the next day.

So, is this chafing here to stay or will her skin toughen up eventually? The aquaphor is making some difference, but it hasn't gone away completely. DS never had the chafing and we switched to cloth around 15 months (still crawling).

It comes and goes with my dd. I didn't get it with my boys, either... maybe it is her thigh shape.
