Question....

What is the normal color of the head of an intact penis? I was kind of shocked when my 6 yr old son retracted the foreskin and it was a purplish/bluish color? Is that normal or not? Thanks for any help

totally normal. it's essentially mucousal tissue like the inside of your mouth or your vagina, very vascular, lots of blood near the surface.

a circed penis develops a layer of toughened cells on top, like a callous. so a circed penis is not a normal color.

Actually it varies a lot from guy to guy. It can be red, pink, closer to a skin color, bluish, and yes even purpleish.

I am cut and my head has a slightly bluish to purple hue, while at times (because of blood flow) it is much more boldly these colors.

Circumcision does not change the color of the penis head (glans) generally though in an intact guy that color scale is just slightly darker and slightly more distinct.

Your husband probably just has a pinker looking glans that look even more like normal skin color because he is circed.

I guess your DS got the purple penis from your side of the family!

Although I am sure it varies I have a distinct recolection of the difference in color between those who were cut and myself, I Am talking back like 5, 6, or so. I could figure out why there's was so dull were as mine was vivid. (didn't have those words but I do remember wondering and noticing). To answer your original question that sounds normal. I was and still am pretty purple.

A link you might find useful in the future http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=764732 lots of normal things to be found there and what to look for that isnt normal.

The glans of the circed penis is rubbed by clothing and over time builds up a calous not totally like you get on your hands but similar. So the color tends to be way more washed out and dry looking. While the intact glans is very moist looking and smooth in texture.

I would say the callous you get on your hand is very different then what you get on your penis. I would also say any such rubbing is not the main cause of the difference of appearance. Rubbing, and callouses are irregular, like on your hands they are not evenly distributed.

If the apperance was due to rubbing then the color and texture of the cut penis head would be irregular. Yet a cut guy's glans do not appear this way. In reality the difference of apperence is due to the lack of moisture that was once provided by the foreskin.

So I think even comparing it to like the callouses you get on your hands doesn't even make much sense.

It's difficult to think of a callous to compare to it's true. It is mucous membrane which has lost its function. Like a lip turned always out so it is never wet, or an eyelid inside out, or the sinus lining with the nose removed - extreme things one rarely if ever sees.

But the cells of the glans of a circ'd penis ARE calloused, in the sense that they are continuosly exposed when they were designed to be continuously protected. In terms of normal function the dryest thing a glans is designed to touch is probably a vaginal wall - not dry.

All kinds of colours are normal for intact penises. The main problem with knowing the "real" colour is that often us girls only see the intact man's glans when he is aroused, and that does tend to mean he is more purple because of the increased bloodflow. Unaroused DP is uniform in colour and slightly darker to his general skin colour (like one shade maybe). Aroused he is all kinds of beautiful colours, pinks, purples, blues, deep reds and pale pale ivory, like an exotic flower or something. Quite, quite beautiful.
