Potted catnip plant for the cat?

I'm excited to plant some catnip in a pot, for our kitty to enjoy.

This is my question though... our kitty goes CRAZY with catnip toys (dried catnip inside). So... what do you think her reaction will be to a real plant? More specifically, do you think she'll knock it over/destroy it/etc...?

What's their reaction to a real plant? How long does the plant last?

The plant should last a good long time, it grows like a weed.
And the answer to your other questions is, try it and see. I know my cats like it dried but don't get too excited about it fresh. So there you go, give it a go!

Like the PP said, catnip has a tendency to grow like crazy. So if your cat does really love it, it might be worth it to keep an extra pot of it out of kitty's reach, if you have somewhere to do that.

Squirt *loves* dried catnip. He also loves fresh catnip if you tear it or mush it between your fingers so he smells the oils. But he very very rarely pays any attention to the potted plant. He's more interested in eating chives and cilantro (he's weird!)

One of my favorite things to do is pull a fresh leaf off of the plant, and then rub it all over one of his toys... he goes NUTS!

My cat likes catnip but ignores it in the pot. Instead she goes after my chives, blue spruce, echinecea.

I spoke too soon.

Squirt has been sitting in the pot of catnip for the last couple of days. As in, he'll jump in and curl up on top of it, like it's his own little catnip bed. The pot is perfectly kitty sized, as it turns out.
