prefolds and buying

So I thought a prefold was a prefold until I read a review of one that said it pilled a lot and chafed her lo's bottom. What should I look for/stay away from?

Also, can we buy cd's at most baby stores? I think I've seen some prefolds or flats (quality?), but I'm thinking if I wanted to pick up a few fitteds or covers on the spot, or something. What did people do before the age of the internet?

I bought all my prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers and I *love* them. They've held up beautifully and work great!

I bought my prefolds from Little Lions, they are reasonable priced and after prepping they are sooo soft and fluffy.

You can buy flats/prefolds at Target and Walmart - but beware of the polyester padding - get ones that are 100% cotton with no polyester padding - you have to read carefully. These are fine for newborns - infant IMO but you'll want thicker ones when older or just double up.
Depending on where you live there are cloth diaper boutiques.....most major cities will have at least one.

The prefolds that you can buy at target and babies r us are much different than the indian or chinese prefolds that you will find in online stores. the indian prefolds are very high quality and super absorbent. The ones that are sold in target are great for burp cloths but often can frustrate people as far as diapering because they just aren't absorbent enough for diapering.

Get Chinese or Indian prefolds from a reputable online store. Brick and mortar stores used to sell high-quality cloth diapers, but they don't any more. Gerbers can work in a pinch if they are 100% cotton, but online prefolds are better.
