"Moved to Television"

Thread Starter
I've seen it more than once where a discussion is started about a particular episode of a T.V. show. The episode has something to do with Natural Family Living, such as vaccinations or homebirth. It will start in those respective forums but then be moved to the "Television" forum.

May I suggest that they remain where they were? The movement of these threads implies that they should have been placed in the T.V. forum in the first place. But this is problematic because a good portion of MDC mamas don't watch T.V. but may be willing to access these particular episodes if they knew about them. (I sincerely doubt that these mamas frequent the T.V. forum).

So, for example, a post about "The Doctors" show discussing homebirth would get much wider exposure in the Homebirth forum, where even members who don't watch a lot of (or any) T.V. might be interested in media portrayal of the topic.

I can see where sometimes a different forum would be appropriate in certain situations, such as the Activism forum if you want to encourage mamas to write to a show's producers. But I tend to think of the T.V. forum as more of an interchange for analysis and entertainment but not other Natural Family Living issues. Thanks for your consideration!

In such situations I think it would be best to put a link in the forum to direct people to the thread in Television.

Television is not just for fluff, we can discuss issues in there.

I'm confused by this. I frequently see within threads in the Television forum, that that forum it is for discussing the television show and NOT for discussing other side conversations that may develop from the show.

I am sorry, I am not sure what you mean?

If a Vax issue was in a television show that could be discussed in the forum.

Side discussions are actually fine in television, as long as they don't cross the line into celebrity speculation and gossip, which we no longer host.

So, for example:
Family Gosselugger does this. I saw it on tv and I'm going to try it too.
I saw Family Gosselugger do this and I read about it in their book too. I think that sucks.
OMGosh, did you see is Us Weekly that Daddy Gosselugger was doing body shots off his kids' cello teacher at their rental property.

Likewise, if a conversation becomes focused on an issue hosted in another forum (for example, a conversation about Mormonism in the Big Love thread or plastic surgery in a Real Housewives thread) we will probably go ask you to start a new thread in the appropriate forum, because it's not longer about the TV show.

Is that the sort of thing you meant?

Yes, this is more what I meant. I thought the OP was saying something like...."Did you see last night's episode of House where the couple was having a homebirth and the baby had XYZ issue. What would you do if you were homebirthing and baby had XYZ issue?" and posting it in the Homebirth forum for discussion. And THEN being told to move the topic to Television or having the thread moved to Television. When the discussion isn't really about the show, it's about an issue brought up on the show and the show was merely by way of introduction.
