...I think, other than their soft fluffiness, is that they're easy on the psyche. The baby can pee and poop in a $2 diaper that comes clean in any wash routine, no problem. I've noticed when I add fancier diapers to the mix, no matter how much I like them and how easy they are to use and how well they work, I always get anxious about keeping them in shape. This is a major reason why I'm leaning towards a prefolds stash this time.
The best thing about prefolds...

Not often, just a few times in my years of diapering, but I could do that because they were $2 prefolds. You can't do that with a $20 AIO, ya know?
Sharing in the prefold love.
:
) I love that they store flat, I stack them when they come off the line and put them on a shelf above the changing table, don't require pre-loading like pocket diapers, and require very little thought. I have some gerber prefolds that are great for extra absorbancy without the bulk, other than that it is straight forward
I have a crazy stash and always reach for the prefolds, and there is nothing cuter than a pinned prefold running through the house or yard
