Decrease in post count?

Okay, I could be having mama brain issues but I swear I recently made it to 500 posts and now all of a sudden I have 465? Did this happen?

We haven't had any recent deletions that would be causing such an issue. Do you know which forum that might have happened in?

Oh i have a question on this... if god for bid we do have a post deleted or a thread gets removed that we have posted in- does that come off out total?

Yeah that can happen, but that should just be a post or two. We don't remove entire threads since it would cause post count issues, possibly extensive depending on the thread.

I think she meant we move them to the Naughty Thread Forum, but we don't delete them altogether. When we use something called "soft delete" to remove a post from a thread, then that post is no longer part of your post count.

Hrm... I swear I have lost a bunch of posts when threads go bye bye. Maybe it something that has changed in the last few years that I didn't notice?

The only way you would lose posts is if they were deleted in the thread (which they often are if they were User Agreement violations or if we temporarily delete a post, pending edits). Deleting entire threads makes the server grumpy, and we don't do it. Moving a thread to the Bad Place doesn't delete posts any more than moving a thread from one forum to another deletes the posts; it's simply moved someplace where no one can see it.

But see.. I have seen threads go bye bye and lost posts in my count. But again..that could have been a few years ago and I never noticed a change..

We have deleted things before, we just stopped doing it so it won't mess with post counts.

So back in the days of one particular user when my posts were always going up and down threads WERE being deleted? I didn't think I was crazy.

A lot of this was going on the fall and winter of 2005/2006.
