My veggies aren't growing!

I planted purchased seedlings over a month ago and they still look the same as they did when I planted them. The only plants that have grown at all are one pea plant and a parsley plant. Some of the plants have sort of tough yellow leaves on the bottom. I'm wondering if I put too much compost into the soil. One area of the garden has steer manure compost in it and one has chicken manure compost ...both were mixed with topsoil and regular soil. I'm thinking of maybe pulling them out, putting in more topsoil and replanting, although I think I read that nitrogen might help if the problem is too much compost.

Ideas, mamas?

hmmmm, the first thing i though of is that its too early to plant in your area? are the light requirements being met? ive had that experience too. its so frusterating! good luck!

Ooh...you're in Sonoma Co...my dearest friend lives in Napa. I'm actually not far from you in the Delta. It seems others' veggies are coming in OK. I know my yard is a little shady but the ones that get the most sun are the slowest growing! Grrr.

I would guess some need isn't being met. If the manure wasn't decomposed enough, it will hinder growth. If they're not getting enough water...

Did you harden them off properly before transplanting?

Hmmm. What plants are they?

it's hard to say what's wrong, but i would think that if you're using a manure-based compost there should be enough nitrogen in there.

when you say the more shaded ones are outgrowing the ones that get the most sun, are they developing new leaves, or just getting taller? if they are getting taller without growing new leaves then it still could be that they're not getting enough light.

if your plants are not actively dying, i would try to be patient. sometimes transplanting just knocks the wind out of a plant. they might be very active underground, replacing lost rootlets and digging in to their new home.
