help me choose a juicer!

Thread Starter
hi there!!
I am currently being treated for rectal cancer, and have to modify my diet both now, and in the future, most likely... I am interested in juicing for the health benefits, as well as to avoid the fiber that i can not tolerate anymore...
What would be your top choice for a juicer??? Thanks, Holly

if i could afford one i'd get a green star. their super expensive but really nice. champion juicers are good too and don't cost quite as much.

if i were you i'd probably invest in a vita-mix as well, we have one and they are AWESOME! for making whole food juices. they have them at costco or try craigslist or ebay.

i bought an omega 8003 recently, mostly because a good friend has one and loves it, and i have been very happy with it. it's a masticating juicer, which basically grinds the fruit/vegetable and then the pulp comes out one end and the strained juice another. one of the pros in my opinion is that it easily does soft juicy fruits (think citrus) and leafy greens/herbs which most regular juicers can't. it's also ridiculously easy to clean!

good luck choosing a juicer and good luck on your journey to healing!

we just got a lack la lanne one(ridiculously good sale at gnc) and its good. i like it so far especially for the price.
there was lots of juice and little pulp-pro
however, it is kind of a pain in the butt to clean. if you rinse it right away it comes clean but you have to unscrew the blade and take the top part off-con.

I like my Omega 8003. Bought it on Craigslist for $100 from someone who had never used it, so the parts were all still in their plastic bags and it was like new. I like it. It does have a narrow hopper, but for greens I mostly just stuff them in. You have to cut up larger things like beets.

to you for what you are going thru. We have a juicer, but not sure if it is considered good or not. Smoothies are a delicious way to sneak in more fruits and veggies, ice cold!

If we could afford it, we would also get a Green Star juicer. However, right now we have a Sharper Image one and it seems to work okay. . .our pulp isn't as dry as we would like and it doesn't do leaves very well. . .but it works for us for right now. We really like this site for juicer information.

We have a Breville 800JEXL juicer and like it. It has an upright design which is important for us counter space-wise and looks good, too, so I leave it out all the time. If I had to haul out a big, heavy juicer every time I wanted fresh juice I would never use it. It doesn't have too many plastic parts, either, which I like.

Hi ya,

I know if you want a juicer that is long lasting then the Champion Juicer is well known for this. It is not the cheapest on the market but you pay more for good quality. This site is based in the UK but they have a lot of information on juicer recipes and advice etc - UK Juicers.

Hope that helps!

Is the Breville able to juice greens?

Another vote for Green Star, if you have the money to spend. I have had one for 9 years and love it!

We have the Omega 8003 as well - I really like it and like pp's said, it's easy to clean.

The masticating types supposedly are more beneficial from a nutrient standpoint - they're supposed to leave more nutrients and enzymes intact due to the low speed/fact that no heat is produced.

I have also heard the green star is very good, too.

The Omega (and green star, I think) can juice regular veggies, but also citrus fruits, greens and wheat grass, which most other juicers cannot.

I would also consider a vitamix or blentec blender for making green smoothies - they are able to break open the tough cell walls of the greens and make it easier to digest and absorb all the nutrition - if you 'chew' your smoothie, digestion will start in the mouth with your saliva and you'll be able to digest it even more efficiently.

Good luck with your choice!

I would go w/ a VitaMix! There is no pulp like w/ a juicer so you dont waste anything!
