i'm considering it... :

i'd have to make sure i got my ducks in a row... waldorf school nearby for the kids... tuition assistance and/or grants/scholarships for us all to attend the teacher trainings and dc's education.

i'm considering seattle (sound circle teacher training) or portland (mi-chael institute) or...fair oaks (steiner college), so far. not sure where else i might go...

i have heard pdx and seattle rain a LOT. is it like an all day rain or passing rains? i love living in bend (oregon) as there are so MANY blue sunny days...

hmmm.

i just feel so inspired to become a teacher. probably would love to start in a kindergarten assisting. i in no way would be ready even in 5 years to be a lead teacher. so much to learn...my dd's kindergarten teacher is AMAZING. she is just so AWESOME.

I'm not in teacher training, but there was a time when I strongly considered it. I live about 20 minutes from Rudolf Steiner College and they have an awesome program--they actually have lots of different programs, depending on what you want to teach.

The Sacramento area is great for lots of reasons, and we have lots of Waldorf schools either right in the city area or within a half hour or so drive. Off the top of my head, there's Sacramento Waldorf, Camellia Waldorf, Davis Waldorf, Cedar Springs Waldorf, and Live Oak Waldorf, plus two public charter/public Waldorf Methods Schools--John Morse and Golden Valley. There are always tons of jobs in the area, there's a great sense of community between the schools and you can't drive anywhere without seeing at least one Waldorf bumper sticker. Oh, and we have something like 320 days of : per year.

I have been strongly considering it too. I would have to start next year though and I'm sure it would be in Seattle. I had started a thread on this very subject awhile back and alot of ladies gave some great insight into everything. I will find it.

I waaaannnttt to! Waaaaa! But I can't. There's not enough money, no place nearby, and I'm getting another degree already in library science.

Since it sounds like you'll have to move for the training you might want to consider working on building up your understanding of Anthroposophy and then something like the 1 year teacher training program in Toronto. It makes it a little cheaper. Of course if you want to commit to 4 or so summers somewhere on the coast, that is probably easier although a few people in my neck of the woods (north of Montana) are most interested in New Hampshire. I've given some good thought to California too though!

You might also want to look into the AWSNA grants for folks working on becoming teachers... and assisting in a class is a great way to get started as well.

I start my Waldorf teacher training this year at Highland Hall in CA. I'm excited and terrified all at once. Thanks for starting this thread, it's full of good info.

I'll be starting my training next summer.....I was going to start assisting at our local WS in the children's garden this fall....but childcare for my DS, 13 mo, was as issue. I can't possibly leave him in the care of our family, while I go nurture someone else's children!!
I spend my days honing my skills to begin assisting and training. It is time well spent!
My BA is in elementary education...and I was more than unhappy with my experiences in the public school system. Waldorf has been such an awakening for me!
