Reintroducing food allergen to a child

Hello,

Last year after allergy testing and an ED, we discovered DD (now 3.5) had a egg white allergy, as well as sensitivities to citrus, strawberries, tomatoes. By removing these foods (and doing other things, but I'm trying to keep this short!) from her diet we were able to heal her eczema.

We are curious about reintroducing eggs in some form and how we should proceed. I discussed the issue with our new ped and she indicated we could, when we want, introduce eggs in something like a baked good and see how that goes. Finally introduce eggs in egg form after a period of a couple of months.

I'm asking here:
How have you reintroduced a food allergen?
If you saw a response what form did it take and how soon?
What should we consider before reintroducing eggs?
Any other thoughts you'd want to share on this topic?

Thank you!

Hi. We've reintroduced a few things, though only one of her "true" allergens (IgE type), which was dairy. My dd had been mostly dairy-free from 3 mths of age, and completely free since 15 mths. We reintroduced it when she turned 3, so she'd been completely off all dairy for about 2 years. We gave her some everyday: pancakes made with milk, yogurt, butter on her bread, cheese, milk in her cereal, etc.

The symptoms took a while to show up. We kept expecting eczema (which is what she had the first time), but it didn't show for a long while. She started having looser stools a couple weeks in to our trial, she also gradually developed a rash on her butt, including a staph infection (folliculitis). Later, the butt rash extended down her legs, and I guess at that point it would have been eczema. We eventually noticed dark circles under her eyes. All in all, it took almost 3 mths for it to be completely obvious to us (maybe we're just slow though). I think the slow reaction was a combination of it being out of her system so long, and also, I personally think she had/has both an IgE allergy to it AND and IgG intolerance. She may very well have outgrown the IgE reaction (and a recent allergy test said she absolutely was NOT dairy allergic), but the IgG remains.

My recommendation for you would be to wait longer to reintro eggs. I know it's a pain, but honestly, the longer the better, imo. I'd probably give her another year. Are you doing other healing things to strengthen her immune system?
