Since the birth of my 2nd child a year ago, my hair is thinning and feels like straw. I am no longer nursing, so wanted to take some supplements, in addition to the prenatal I still take, to assist in bringing some life to my hair. Biotin and Niacin were recommended. I should add I eat a very healthy diet with lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains and dairy.

I bought Solaray brand Biotin 5000 mcg (timed release) and Solaray brand Niacin 500 mg. I took it for the 1st time yesterday, and experienced the "niacin flush". It lasted about 15 mins - literally felt like all the blood in my body was rushing to my ears and head, followed by a tingle all over my body. Then my legs itched like mad.

I have heard this sensation can be alleviated by taking aspirin or ibuprofin, and that time also lessens the flush.

Do any of you mama's know if this is dangerous, and should I stop taking it? Will it get better over time?
