Are labor ctx always in your abdomen?

I've been having some ctx tonight that are real low - like in my crotch and definitely painful. I know baby is super low and friday I was 3cm and 90% effaced. But my ctx aren't going through my sides or anything - they are all concentrated real low.

Those could be the real thing, most of my contractions were in my back. My daughter was a double compound presentation (both hands by face). So I think position can make a difference. The only way to really know is if they get stronger, closer and eventually result in a baby.

I'll keep an eye on them. They've been real irregular. Like 1 or 2 and then nothing for an hour. I think something is starting, but who knows if it will end up in our baby delivering tonight or next week??? I'm so excited for labor that I'm so hopeful. Maybe I'll try a little acupressure on myself.

For the majority of labor with my first contractions were concentrated very low and in my back due to positioning and most likely a hand by his face. It wasn't until far into labor when he corrected his positioning that I remember them being more abdominal but still concentrated in my back (due to the hand).

Mine were always really low, kind of wrapping across the front of my hips. In fact the midwife didn't believe I was in active labor since they weren't ever up in my abdomen.

Hope this is the beginning of something for you!

The discomfort I felt with my contrax was mostly in my bottom--I could feel the cervix being stretched. The tightness in the rest of my abdomen was intensely tight but not really all that painful. They could definitely be the real thing. Whether the baby's birth is tomorrow or next week, I like to think of every contrax as doing a little bit of work!

I have only had abdominal ctx. after pitocin. All of my natural ctx. were deep in my back and hips and even down my legs.

I've felt some in my abdomen, like they started up high and have consistently gotten lower. Then occasionally I'll get a couple in my crotch like you described. I felt like octanebeetle said, my cervix was beginning to stretch. The ones in my abdomen felt like they were pushing the baby down.

Can't say I've ever had real labor ctxs yet though!

The only CXs I got in my abdomen where the braxton hicks ones. When I was in pre-labor and actual labor I knew the difference mostly because the CXs had moved down low in my pelvis. During transition they felt really intense in my pelvis and were radiating down my legs and around into my butt (made sitting in the car really fun I'll tell you), but never up in my abdomen. I hope this is the real thing for you!

Thanks for all your replies! I feel like I won't know when its real labor, but I suppose I will. After some achy painful ctx last night they went away. I'm SO happy our baby is going to be full term, but I just feel like crying for some reason or another. I just want him to come. I suppose eventually he will, right?

My personal experience-- I never felt a single contraction in my abdomen. They were ALL in my hips-- kind of a feeling of my pelvis being ripped open (yes, fun). But she was posterior, AND my water had broken making her VERY low.

And yes, eventually he will come

I've felt what I've described as ctx in my cervix/more vagina. Weird feeling.

I have a friend who felt them in her thighs.
