So I can rotate and become insane, or... what would the other choice be ? I figured at least if I do a four day rotation I have a chance of figuring out if he's reacting to something. DS totally horked the eggs this morning, for better or for worse!

I think when it comes to this subject, either way you're doomed to the insanity aspect. It's just a matter of whether or not you'd like to keep your hair and for how long.
Hoping the eggs are a pass!

I lost quite a bit of mine recently and cut it on thursday--it was either that, or put it in a ponytail and hack it off myself!

Jacqueline, I'm a loser. Can you go look at the updated first post of this thread? Cause I don't know what I'm actually supposed to do with the Chat Thread Links page. Is it a place where I click on each link to bring it in a new window, copy the addy and then do the magical link thing? Is there an easier way, or am I just lazy (or technologically stupid)?

My hair is only about 1.5 inches long to start with, so I think I'm in trouble . Trust me, when I started babbling about liver detox pathways to my husband last night (who has a degree in botany and biochemistry), he did wonder if I had gone over the edge . However, he did think it was interesting that I think he and DS have some similar pathway issues, so now I get to experiment on them both (reading this sentence, it is clear I am already far gone).

DS is a happy dude after the eggs, but he's not taking a nap. I don't suppose that's an intolerance symptom... (like suddenly I will fix his food stuff and he will promptly take a regular two hour nap every afternoon).

Actually, my daughter was 3.5yo when we cut out gluten and dairy, and although she hadn't been napping for a year, she started again and napped fairly regular til at least 4.5yo. She's 5.5yo now and still sometimes naps if we've been extra-active in the morning or she's not feeling well.

You're so far from a loser that you should have forgotten the meaning by now.
I created the Chat Thread Links so that I didn't have to type out and link every link on it every week. It was my way of being lazy. Instead of having to chase down and link every relevant thread, I just link to that instead. Then, as more relevant threads pop up, I just throw them in there instead of linking them over and over every week. Feel free to respond to my Chat Thread Links thread so you can add to the list yourself.
Other than that, I was going through the most recent few pages of threads seeing if I'd missed anything recently or if anyone needed to be bumped up or had a question that I felt needed more input (just because I'm a meddler like that). I don't expect you to do that, it's just what I was doing.
I know you'll find your own way of doing things and it won't be mine and that's okay. But the Chat Thread Links are there to try to make life easier for everyone... A quick place to look for a thread you might be searching for and an easy way to link to all of them.

After 22 months peanut-free, 9 months of which has been constant pregnancy cravings, I have been brought down by a peanut butter and honey sandwich. Here's to hoping DS2 doesn't have terrible acidic poop from it (or any other reaction).
Had to comment on this. DS2 has been perfectly fine today. He reacted previously within 12 hours of my eating peanuts with terrible acidic poop, a diaper rash ("bull's eye" rash around his anus), gas and a little bit of spitting up. This was when he was about 3 or 4 weeks old. I'm so excited. This is actually the first purposeful food trial I have ever done. I'm trying not to be *too too* excited though, iykwim, because I'm not certain exactly how much milk he's getting from me at this point and maybe he's just not had enough. It would be so nice to have peanut butter back though.

I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall for that one. DH has an interest in science, but generally it's more like quantum physics and such and isn't formally trained. Although I really enjoy quantum physics and things of that nature, I was shocked to learn how much I enjoyed biochemistry. Although I do seem to recall my grade 9 teacher suggesting it as a career... Too bad I laughed at her.
I've been wondering if I'm missing something with DS2 for similar reasons myself, mamafish. He doesn't seem to sleep very much.

Oh, I could only wish!!!

My DD was the real non-sleeper - she ditched her 45 minute nap the day she turned two, and never looked back. DS needs a nap, but that doesn't mean he easily takes one. However, he is sleeping as I write this, so maybe it is the eggs . I will not complain, however - until a few months ago, he was regularly up in the middle of the night for hours at a time, like 1-5am. 4 or 5 times a week. Not unusual for autistic kids, but really, really awful for mama sleep. And also a possible salicylate sensitivity behavioral symptom, I read - ah, the things you wish you had known a couple of years ago...

Things are slow around MDC today (of course, the one day I have carte blanche on the net!). IL's and DH will be back soon! I am excited to see DH (he's been gone all weekend) and to go home and SLEEP. Watching a 21 yr old with autism isn't easy. I'm glad my IL's could take this trip.

Just subbing quickly so I can come back later and catch up....

And I want to recommend everyone go to the beach for a weekend (or an overnight.) I feel SO refreshed!! And would you believe it- we were out in the sun (straight beach sun- no shade) for probably 3 hours yesterday, peak afternoon hours, and my face is only slightly pink (but with lots of extra freckles). Usually I'm out for 20 minutes and burnt to a crisp. Granted, we're not in full summer sunshine yet, but still... DD also has a teeny, tiny bit of pink on her cheeks, but no sunburn either. (Am I remembering correctly that the sunburn thing is nutrient related?)

I think the sunburn thing is nutrition related, I haven't quite figured out if it's only one thing (and which one) or multiple things. I've read: less vegetable oil (because of the polyunsaturated fats or the high omega-6s? not sure), better omega-3/omega-6 balance, and better vitamin D status. I don't think I've changed on the first two (unless it was very slowly over time), but I've been supping a lot of D for a couple months now, and I'm not really burning for the last month or so. I may get a tiny bit pink-ish, but it's not actual red (I used to do the lobster-red thing with ease) and it's not peeling, and I may even be getting a little brown (in my very pale skin way). And this is Texas midday sun.

So whatever's changed, it seems like a good thing for all of us!

Kathy, come make scalloped potatoes for me. I really want them but I don't have the energy to slice that many potatoes tonight and I'm sick of rice and I don't want baked potatoes nor mashed potatoes. And no one here likes quinoa (yet). I need an idea for a quick and easy (starch) side dish which doesn't include rice. Anyone have any ideas? I don't have any sweet potatoes in the house.

ETA: The meat for tonight is honey garlic chops. It was supposed to be roast chicken which would've made my life so easy but I was less than motivated this morning and forgot to put it in the crock pot.
E(again)TA: Sorry for the whine. I'm so tired.

I wonder....
I'm going to try something and I'll let you know how it goes.

cs - i'm glad you enjoyed the ocean. we live right near lake michigan (and Dave's parents actually live right on it). while it's not an ocean, it's a super big body of water and it's tons of fun. beaches EVERYWHERE. i used to never ever burn as a kid, but as i got older i started burning more and more easily. i'm curious to see how things will go this summer.

speaking of things that used to happen but don't... (er, forgive the awkward segue, please.)

i had mimosas with brunch today. i did not get any tingle of tipsiness whatsoever, after two over two hours. just a few months ago a few sips of rum & juice gave me a headrush. similarly, kombucha used to give me a total instant headrush and now nadda. :

i like seeing progress.

mamafish - i've correlated eggs to delayed/no nap in my nearly 2yo. we're eating a fair amount of eggs right now, but i also found a mid-ground for my B6 consumption. I think too little or too much B6 can break the sulfite pathway. (why can't i remember its name? ugh.)

shannon - i LOVE you. i gave lily 500mg of B12 today instead of 250mg and i gave her 200mg of folate directly. by the afternoon she had noticeably cooled it on the freakouts and the assuming everyone was trying to hurt her or take her stuff or whatever. :

JR - just sayin' hi. have we started a baby pool around here. i don't know why, but the 18th just jumped out at me.

pat - no, you're not alone. i analyze everyone. i just saw a friend with a 3m old baby who has copious spit ups. i immediately thought 'aha dairy intolerance!'

I can't quote you Jacqueline. It keeps bringing me to a blank page. It struck me funny -- if I made a batch of scalloped potatoes and sent it to you... I wonder what it would look like when you opened the box...

Oven fries would be good too. There's not quite so much slicing as with scalloped potatoes.

I tried making saffron rice last night. There was no taste to it so I must have picked a bad recipe. I'll have to experiment. I am getting tired of regular white rice. You could always just do two vegetables or a fruit and a vegetable and not have a starch.

1. slicing potatoes = mandolin slicer. i love mine.

2. re: no starches. after jumping off the paleo wagon i'm bloated and sore and gross again, so i'm going full paleo again starting tomorrow (ate the last of the potatoes today). we do meat and two veggies instead of a starch...

So, to start on something positive, we did get over to the nursery today and I picked up lettuces (bibb and romaine), tomatoes (3 heirlooms and one roma), bell peppers (one red and two yellow), and more strawberries. I have had the hardest time starting seeds this year. I started later than I wanted (our growing season here really begins by March unless we have an unusual rainy "El Nino" year), but almost every single seedling that came up either stopped growing completely or was presumably eaten by something because they disappeared. So, I finally decided to buy already growing plants. Next year I think I'll have to start in little cups and transplant when they are big enough to grow outside.

On the not-so-positive side, I'm so tired of the moodiness around here. Ds#1 is having a horrible time simply communicating. He is throwing tantrums like a 2 year old. Heck my not-quite-three year old doesn't even throw tantrums like that. He refuses to talk when he is upset about anything. He also gives me grief about everything. He refuses to drink his vitamins, so now if I want to get something in him, I need to make sure I have a pill for him (fortunately he'll swallow them, but some things I need to cut in half into separate cap's for him because of dosage). Now, ds#3 doesn't want to take his drinking vitamins either (and amazingly enough seems able to swallow at least small capsules). Oy! Fortunately, ds#2, who is probably the most in need of healing willingly takes his, though I fear he'll stop if the others stop.

Sometimes I feel like we need to do a full TED and get to baseline. I wonder still if there is something still bugging our systems. Or, if we have major metal problems despite our hair analysis. I can't afford right now to do any other testing. I'm having a hard enough time affording all of our supplements.

Gah ... I'm just down on it all right now. I feel like I am toiling in vain. Sorry to be a downer.

A mandolin slicer has been on my wishlist for a while now... I am SO sick of chopping things.
