If this thread is to remain open for discussion, please remember to remain on topic regarding the potential role of vaccines in relation to autism. Any additional discussion regarding health issues, diagnosis or interventions should be continued in H&H.

Blossommama. I am in awe by the amazing history of your family and lengths you have gone to to give your boys the best possible start in life. Do you live in an alternatively minded sort of community?

I am curious at what age you started to have concerns. Do both your boys present in the same way? Are they identical or fraternal twins?

Are you in any way regretting not having vaccinated your boys?

mama - this must be very rough for everyone involved.

Jenny McCarthy is a celeb who is fighting autism in her own child- She mentioned diet therapy as a treatment (in a recent mag. article), and that her son (7 years) is doing a LOT better with this.

I mention this because you mentioned allergies- it is theorized that food allergies might be a problem, hence the therapy takes away the substances that cause the reaction.

Here are some links to further reading on the topic (but I suggest you do your own research too)-

The Diet Channel- Autism and Diet: Hopeful Possibilities For Improving Autism With Diet.

Using Diet Therapy in the Treatment of Children Diagnosed with Autism

I also went to PubMed to look for some kind of research and I must say I'm not very good at navigating that site. From what I can see though, there are NO studies supporting diet helping/causing autism in children.

I'm sorry it isn't a REAL answer, but maybe it can help?

I would actually suggest to move this thread to Heath & Healing, this way we could discuss things more freely and hopefully shed some light to the issue.

What natural remedies did you give your twins when they were sick?

What symptoms were they showing that made you think allergies?
These were my exact questions as well. What natural remedies, what symptoms, could it be there are some heavy toxins in the house (mercury in the bathtub, lead in paint/toys and so on). A year or so ago we had one of the local congressmen purchasing a lead check device (that costs about $50,000) and doing a free lead check of kids toys in Boulder Public Library. The good news is that our toys were good, the bad news that three of our big beautiful mugs (Target brand, colors: two olive and one yellow) had 25,000 units of lead (TWENTY FIVE f***** THOUSAND) while anything above 200 considers to be high.
