Talk to me about the Xyron

Thread Starter
I'm kind of considering asking for a Xyron for Christmas this year, but I've never used one and hoped someone here could give me some info. I like to cut and save beautiful pictures from greeting cards, magazines, etc. I thought a Xyron might be nice to have to make these pretty images into stickers for my daughter. I also thought it might be a neat way to make recycled material stickers for scrapbooking that I can maybe sell in my Etsy shop cheap.

Do you like your Xyron? I'm very, very poor and can't afford simple things like that, but if you were going to ask for just one thing for Christmas and you really wanted the Xyron, would it be worth it?

Is it affordable? The website doesn't say how much adhesive comes in one refill packet. How many stickers will one refill pack make? Would it be cost effective at all? How do you feel about yours and was it worth it?

What about the different adhesives? I know there's permanent and also the type that makes repositionable stickers. How many times are they repositionable? I'm just wondering because my daughter is a toddler and it would be cool if she could stick them a few times and I wouldn't have to peel them off of walls and the wood floor with a butter knife.

Thanks so much!

They make a couple of different kinds. They make a small adhesive machine in the shape of an x. It works well for items only an inch wide. Then they make a machine that is 9 inches wide. The refills are about 50 meters of adhesive. The only thing I'd caution you about is that the advesive tends to spread off the edges and make the edges of the items very sticky.

I have one that holds a full sheet of paper (9 inches wide?) and I like it. I use it more for cold laminating. You can get cartridges that laminate both sides, or laminate one side/adhesive the other, or laminate one side/magnet the other. I haven't used the repositionable adhesive, so I'm no help there. I do like it, but it is kind of expensive to get the refills. I also have the same quarrel as the PP with the adhesive around the edges. You have to go around the edges with an art gum eraser to remove the excess adhesive, which is kind of a pain.

We love ours. Well, we loved it. DD loved it so much she used up all the adhesive and broke it.

If you can keep your kidlings away from it, though (except under supervision), it's pretty nifty.
