A Gift From My Worm Bin!

I noticed some green stalks growing up through the top dirt layer of my worm bin this weekend. I thought it looked like celery...nope! When I pulled the stalks they were each connected to a chunk of potato that I had thrown in with my food scraps! So, now I have 4 potato plants planted in my garden!

This was so exciting to me - I had to share! What a surprise!!! What a gift! I was cultivating potatoes and didn't even know it

Has this happened to anyone else? This is my first year with a worm bin so perhaps I am just easily impressed, lol.

I don't keep an indoor worm bin but I have had potatoes, squash, tomatoes melon, pumpkins and gourds sprout and grow in my outdoor compost bin. They did really well too!

I've gotten all kinds of sprouts in my indoor bin. It's really neat, isn't it? I've read that throwing avocado seeds in your worm bin is the easiest way to grow an avocado.

Mine is actually an outdoor worm bin. Its just worms, dirt and food scraps. I don't really know what I'm doing - that's why my discovery was so exciting! I didn't realize people had indoor worm bins....? I'm looking forward to my next sprouting discovery!

I have the same thing happening from some potatoe ends I cut off and tossed in my bin. They're growing probably at least 6 inches tall, through a couple of trays up. I can't decide if there's enough potato left on them to keep the plant growing or not, I may end up planting them

I have about 4 dill plants that came from my compost bin and I have had MANY avocado plants start there. Last year we had some pumpkins and some tomatoes too!
