How can I keep my neighbor's dog out of my yard?

We back up to golf course and can't have a fence. A lot of people walk their dogs on the golf course after hours. About 15 times (that I've seen, there have probably been more) I'll be out there when this huge lab comes bounding into my yard, knocks over the baby, pees on all my plants and just runs around crazy. Everytime the owner comes running after apologizing to collect his dog. Ok the first couple times, I know stuff happens and I accept the apology. After that, it's like come on put your dog on a leash! He seems to be under the delusion that is dog is under voice command which he clearly is not.

The other day when this happened dh was out there too and said "Hey could you do me over and keep your dog on a leash. We can't have strange dog running into our yard" The guy just kind of shrugged and walked away. I thought that would be the end of it.

Nope. I just heard our new dog barking his head off and who is in our yard? That freakin lab!

I don't know what to do!

Oh, my gosh, I feel for you. Before we put up our fence, our neighbors dogs would be on our deck every morning. We live near some people who think it is "cute" that all of their dogs "make the rounds" every morning, going to each others houses and saying hi and getting a treat. I HATE THAT! We put up a 6 foot fence.

Of course I know you can't do that, so I am not sure what to tell you. You could go and talk to them and request that they keep their dog on a leash, out of your yard, because you just got a new dog and it freaks him out to have other dogs in the yard right now. Could that work? Then you are not having to confront the issue head-on (that their dog is driving you crazy)

This is the problem I have with INvisible Fence, btw, because it does not keep other dogs OUT of the yard.

Easy, call your home owners assoc or the golf club. Our golf club would NOT be happy with any dog running free on the course. Which he is doing if he's getting to your yard off the course. I'm thinking instant warning letter then fine.

Follow him if needed to figure out where he lives. That's just totally rude!

I'm not nice about cats and dogs in my yard so I would be taking the dog to the pound the very second it was in my yard.

Perhaps call animal regulation? Your home owners association?

The next time it happens, I'd inform the guy that the next time you see his dog running around you'll call the police and/or animal control. Then do it.

I was going to suggest a motion-activated sprinkler but that wouldn't work when you're out there too. Perhaps having a hose handy when you're there?
