does bamboo absorb more slowly than cotton? (DS is soaking right through)

I've been using some bamboo prefolds I made, and since I started using them I've been having trouble with my wool covers...basically the first pee is soaking right through when DS is on his stomach. This doesn't happen when he's on his back or wearing a BSWW. I wasn't having this problem with infant prefolds, and the bamboo ones are more absorbent, so I'm not sure why this is happening. The bamboo prefolds have been washed about half a dozen times (plus the two times I washed them to prep them) and are 2x3x2, one layer of bamboo terry, one of bamboo fleece, and an internal soaker of bamboo fleece. And I just lanolinized the covers again to see if that made any difference...it didn't, same thing is still happening.

My only thought is that maybe he pees towards the front, and so the extra pressure from him lying on his stomach forces the pee through the wool? I know that if DS is wearing a fleece cover and falls asleep he leaks through if he is on his stomach just because of the compression...

I like my bamboo dipes and feel they are absorbant, but 3 layers wouldn't be enough for us. You could try adding a doubler???

I'd venture to guess it is the pressure from laying on the area he pees at. I can't use wool covers in the car because the pressure from the car seat causes the pee to go straight through them, but they work fine at home.

They're enough for him now...they aren't even wet in the back when I change him.

I just realized that right about the time I switched to the bamboo prefolds DS started rolling from his back to his stomach, and so started spending a lot more time on his stomach...which probably is what's causing the wicking. He's always slept on his stomach and I'm not sure why we don't get wicking from that. Maybe it's because he pushes himself up with his arms so most of his weight is resting on his diaper area (when he's awake).
