Sorry to hear about all the care issues, Wombat.

Woohoo -- 'passed' the glucose challenge test well in the normal range. Was really worried about that since I started this pregnancy significantly overweight.

Baby is still measuring a little on the big side -- 31" at 28 weeks. I'm hoping it doesn't take after hubby's side of the family (both he and his brother were almost 11lbs). Does anyone know if it's possible to just have a big baby even if you don't have GD and even if you're not gaining a lot of weight? (My net total gain is 1lb).

So I just put the newborn and 0-3 month hand me downs from DS in the laundry.

I have more onsies than I will know what to do with. Honestly, while cleaning up I found 3 unopened packets and I probably just put 20 in the wash. How did I end up with so many? I guess that is what everyone assumes you need. Well, since we cloth diaper I prefer t-shirts so I can use my cute wool covers. Think I may cut some and hem for shirts so I don't have to do buy a ton of shirts since it appears I have only a few of those.

I also just realized I only have 2 sleepers so I may get a few more of those for fall.

Now that I'm 7 months pregnant with my third baby, it looks like my husband is going to get laid off. We are fairly sure now. HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN? This was supposed to be a safe job. That was the point of taking this job. I feel like I am watching our entire future go down the drain.

Roger was one month shy of the cutoff date for layoffs.

All that money spent (close to 2,000 on uniforms and related gear), relocating our family 100 miles away (another 3,000), the hell that was him gone at the Academy for four months (including a breakdown and hospitalization for me after a miscarriage that I suffered through alone), all for nothing. NOTHING! Now I am stuck in the stupid valley, away from my friends, feeling more alone than ever before.

I just want to bury myself in a hole and never come out.

Me too. I'm trying to look at the positives. He has a year of law enforcement experience now. He qualifies for other law enforcement positions, stuff we couldn't get before because they weren't hiring people with no experience. Our hometown, which I really want to get back to, has a police department that is actively recruiting right now. He can go on unemployment for up to one year. If he does get laid off, he'll get the summer off and will probably still be off after the baby is born, so that help will be invaluable. We'll definitely stay here through the summer so I can birth with the midwife I have.

At least this happened just days before we signed a 14 month lease on our house!

Sorry Lindsay, that just sounds so hard, especially bc you are so far along. Hang in there!

I'm sorry, mama. I am glad there are some prospects and that you dodged the lease bullet.

I'm boring with nothing out of the ordinary to report. I'm tired. See? Boring.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

I'm so sorry Talula... there's so much of that "going round" and it just stinks. I'm glad you've been able to find some positives though, and hopefully it'll work out in the end. I forget... were you in the Treasure Mapping thread too? Maybe make a vision board or other visualization tool to help you focus on what you can do now and in the near future?

Hang in there...

no I'm not in that thread...link?

Yeah, a lot of people are getting laid off. Unfortunately, Arnold has a vendetta against CA Corrections Dept. The union president and him are not on good terms and he is being pretty vindictive. Of almost 5,000 layoffs for the state, over 3600 are from the Dept of Corrections, with about 2,000 COs being laid off.

Lindsay, I'm so sorry to read about your dh's lay-off. Why lay off corrections officers? It seems like the prisons are in dire need of correction and attention themselves, why eliminate those positions? Rhetorical questions Hugs to you at this stressful time.

Because Arnold hates corrections. He and the union president have been at odds for some time. It really makes no sense. They are threatening to lay every CO with less than 15 months experience....which will end up actually costing the state more money becuase the prisons in less desirable areas are staffed with a high percentage of new officers...if all of those officers are gone, that means more overtime for the higher paid higher seniority officers.

Talula Fairie I'm right there with you in layoff land.

Talula- well, the "official" treasure map is over for the year, but lots of people make vision boards or moon boards or similar items whenever they feel the need. The 2009 treasure map thread is here (people still post there, and the first few posts give the general "what is this" outline).

This is my third year of doing the "official" map and it's been an interesting experience. My current "thing" is making intention specific or seasonal specific prayer beads (or meditation beads if the term "prayer" doesn't fly for you)... I found a spiffy book called "Making Pagan Prayer Beads" and kind of went from there. It's nice because beads cost just a few dollars total (so my budget can stand it), they're easy to carry so the reminder to focus my intent/thoughts on whatever it may be is always "at hand", there are lots of options so there's always something that speaks directly to whatever my current need is, and they're an easy craft to do with small kiddos around since you can do it in tiny chunks of time/put the supplies in a tiny box up high!

This is the necklace I made for this season and these are the beads I made for my birthday as a focus for the whole year (amethyst, purple flourite, smokey quartz, and aventurine).

I'm going to be making a set for birth as well... but I could imagine a set of beads to carry in your pocket or as a necklace/bracelet/anklet that would include stones or symbols that say "security" or "family" or "balance" or "joy" or "financial health" or things like that.

Ah ok, so it's basically a visualization map thing. I have actually done that with a folder instead of a board, and it does totally work! Maybe I will try it.

See that makes no sense to me. I can see a business who is loosing customers having to do layoffs but department of corrections, that is just silly. They are not running out of "customers", as a matter of fact isn't it the opposite?
Hopefully, you guys will figure something out if it does happen.

Yes!! Our prisons are horrifically overcrowded. At Folsom where my husband works, they have about double the amount of inmates the prison was designed for. Arnold's solution? Deport the illegals in the prison system (all 19,000 of them, many of whom are too violent for their own country to take back) and let out many of the non violent offenders, about 80% of whom will be back within 6 months.

It boggles the mind!

We have plans for places he can apply to. He may go to the police academy while on unemployment or apply for a position in the sheriff's department.
