Thank you MsNature! Very good info, I'm taking the extract back and getting the organic powder. I hope it works! I'm trying to let my son wean himself, but I really want to get pregnant soon and still have not had a PPAF. I've been using Vitex, but I'm going to stop it and switch to the maca. Plus, it will be fun to make smoothies with the good fruit thats in season!

Hello! I have been taking maca since I started this cycle (except for about a week before O since I was out of town). I can say I can tell a definite difference in my libido but that's all for now. I also am taking the Navitas but cannot stomach more than a teaspoon. I literally almost vomit every morning after taking it. The reason I started taking it is because I came across a thread on here with a lot of BFPs giving credit to the maca. Good luck and to all!

I am thinking maybe I should up my "dose" of maca. Right now I take one heaping teaspoon everyday. My libido seems normal for me. ( which means it wanes toward AF but picks up around O time.) Maca has made my cycle this month a solid 28 days. But I didnt catch the eggy so we're onto a new cycle today.

I'm also looking to encapsulate the rest of my bag of nativas brand maca. My husband hates the taste and wont take it regularly...(he would rather I put it in capsule form for him. lol) I was looking on amazon for capsules. I'm thinking I should get size 00? Anyone have a good place that they get their capsules from? ( maybe a quick shipping kinda place?)

I think mountain rose herbs sells capsules.... But, i have no idea how the sizes correspond to dosage... I guess you'd have to measure how much fits in, and then tell him "here, take this many."

I have no idea about how much to take, but i will do more research during AF i guess!


I will try maca after this cycle if AF shows, but hopefully, this is our month!

i get my veggie capsules in the bulk area at my local health foods store so you could check that for a faster option!

Just finished my first cycle taking maca faithfully. I did miss about a week before Oing since I was out of town. I could see a definite difference this cycle. My libido was definitely increased with DH loved. In past months I've spotted anywhere from 2-4 days before AF actually showed. I've also had terrible cramps and even been sick to the point of vomiting--something I had a problem with when I was younger but grew out of. This cycle I didn't even know AF was on her way except for the fact that I was charting and had a nice temp drop the day before AF showed. I'm hoping that maca has regulated me enough to give me a BFP this month!

I can't imagine DH taking it since he's already got a libido that won't quit. It was better this month for me though because normally my libido is not much after O.

No, the bottle says 2-3 a day, he's taking one.

It's supposed to be good for the blood vessels and improve semen quality.

I upped my amount to 1.5- 2 tsp a day and I actually have noticed a difference in my....uhm....response... Maybe it's also the fact that I've been taking it for a month now.

I started taking organic gelatinized maca powder a month ago. Having just completed a juice fast and continuing to exercise regularly, I was very aware of my body and could feel the effects of the maca quickly: typically i experience a peak in energy for about three hours after consumption, more of a relaxed mind, less hormonal imbalance disruptions. 

Maca was of interest to me as a natural product to help deal with the hormonal imbalances, I'm perimenopausal and have been experiencing various changes for about six months. I initially followed the manufacturer's (NOW) recommended dosage, 1 level teaspoon per day, but that seemed to be too much for me. At this dosage, I experienced an overwhelmed feeling and slight fluttering of my heart. Then I began taking 1/8 to 1/4 t once or twice a day. Its been going great.

Until I read a suggestion to take a week off each month. So when my mense began this month with the full moon, I did not take my small daily dose of maca, planning on using the week of mense as my week off. It is the worst I have felt with my mense in a very long time. Typically, I would experience some PMS and as soon as I began the mense, I felt better. This was not the case this month. I felt far worse when the mense began: cramping, confusion, more lethargy, but by far the worst characteristics are irritability and mood swings. 

I don't know if its the maca, not taking the maca during my mense week, my body trying to adapt to the maca, or a spike in hormonal imbalance that would have occured with or without maca. It has been very noticeable to me and my family because I have flown off the handle twice this week with mood swings.

I would like to read more about menopause/reproductive experiences of Andean women who use this food daily, as well as the experiences of women who are trying to utilize foods and supplements rich in amino acids to cope with the treachery of hormonal imbalance.

  I just started Maca a month ago too. I'm lovin' it so far. I don't have info related to menopause but I'm happy to relate what has happened for me on it.  I am taking the gelatinized form in capsule for hormonal imbalances and fertility. My system is super sensitive so over the month I slowly worked up to 1,050 mg. A few days ago when I found out I wasn't pregnant I added another 550mg ( one more capsule for a total of 3 which is the recommended dose.) I have taken maca everyday without a break. I've read about the once a month break and I've also read that you can do 3 or 4 months on then one month off. Since when ttc conceive it has to be taken very regularly I've opted for the latter recommendation. 

  So far the benefits have been: much better and more even moods, way more energy,TMI - I now have tons of CM mucus prior to O- huge plus for helping fertility. Still had major PMS but -Since starting AF today my period has been wayyyy better. Less cramps, no backache, a little less moody. Flow is still the same. 

 Some of the negatives have been right at the onset of doubling my dose I had bad stomach burning. I have a ulcer so I was expecting this. Ginger and aloe knocked it out and after about a week I haven't experienced any more pain. Also my boobs have been really sensitive. That's it though.

  I'm guessing here- but it would seem to me that because you haven't been taking it long it hasn't built up in your body yet. Stopping before a large homonal shift - possibly when you needed it the most-  may have really jerked your body around? The endocrine system is a crazy sensitive thing. You may have to play around with it a little to figure out the best benefits for yourself. Maybe stay at the dose your comfortable at through your period next month to see if it helps you. 

  I don't have any links on the studies of Andean Women. I think its just through years of anecdotal evidence that we have this info. Although I've read that it is a staple in their diet and they are fertile well into their later years. If you find some more links please share! I am also lacking in amino acids due to digestion issues. So any food/supplementation you would like to share in relation to hormonal issues I'd love to hear :)

I started taking Maca Magic powder, 1 tsp per day, 10/4/12.  I've missed one day since (why does it seem so long ago?)

I've noticed that I have more energy when I take it.  So much so that I have to remember to *only* take it in the morning.  The first day I took it was after I bought it at Whole Foods.  I just downed a heaping spoonful with water at work.  That was a tossy-turny night!  I missed dosing on Saturday and didn't remember until late in the day so I avoided taking it so I would be able to sleep.  

I haven't noticed a huge spike in my libido.  I've been grieving so that probably keeps my Happy Lady at bay.  That said, I have had *some* libido the past few days which is unusual.  I don't usually start getting the feeling until closer to O.  

I have also noticed that my BBT is .1 degree higher.  My AF temps are usually a solid 97.7.   This could be from the maca or the kelp I've started taking.  Possibly the combo.

Looking back over last month's chart I have decided to start Vitex as soon as I O.  My temps did not get very high at all even with the teeny-bean.  I need progesterone support!
