Donated all our leftover milk today!

Today I donated all of the breastmilk I had left from when Zephan was in the NICU last November and December. I had nearly 1,000 ounces of extra milk that was filling up three different freezers. I finally figured out how to donate it to a milk bank and sent everything off by FedEx today.

One thousand ounces is about 8 gallons - or 64 pounds - of milk. From what I remember, that's about enough milk to feed a 4 pound baby for 125 days. I'm pretty excited. Somehow it feels really good to get to this point.

Zephan is 6 months old and doing really well. I feel so blessed and thankful to have a healthy, breastfeeding babe and to be able to share the gift of breastmilk with other preemies.

It is a great feeling, isn't it? I donated my extra milk to a few local moms and it was wonderful. I had an outrageous amount of frozen milk also. We had to buy a chest freezer just to store it.
Congrats on getting your little one nursing full time!

Sbrinton, it must have been a good feeling to help others. I started doing calculations and that is enought to feed my son for about a month. My son is eating all that I pump so I only have 20 oz in my freezer but when I had more I was looking to donate it to a milk bank (we have one here in BC Children's Hospital). It also must feel great to be able to breastfeed Zeph, good for you.
