Aargh!

I found this ad http://corvallis.craigslist.org/pet/1176148795.html

I emailed, because those are 3-4 week old puppies and I was really hoping to hear something like "we weren't going to let them go yet, just drumming up interest to find the best possible homes" or something.

Nope. They are 4 weeks old today and she went on about how they're eating food etc.

I am so upset and sad and frustrated. In California this is illegal, you can not by law release a puppy to a new home before the age of 8 weeks. But in Oregon there is no such law.

ETA: Here is the email that I wrote back to her, I'm really hoping that I'm misunderstanding. I mean, nobody would let a 4 week old puppy go, right? Pretty much everyone knows better than that these days, right?

Quote:
The parents look lovely, very sweet and beautiful. Are you taking deposits for the puppies? Or payment up front, then the adopters will pick up their puppy in a month? That's how we did it with the dog that I have, we went out to choose him at 4 weeks, then came back to pick him up at 8 weeks, I think it's a nice way to do things.

Tried to look but it's been flagged for removal - good for you for trying to politely change their mind

I can't imagine anyone would let a puppy go at 4 weeks old! I sure hope you are right and they are just taking deposits now.

Couldn't see the post, it was flagged.

My sis is in CA and sent me a pic on Friday from her cellphone - someone had brought 5 week old labs to her college to find them homes. Except the picture I saw, the puppy looked to be MAYBE 4 weeks, tops. So very sad, and it happens so often.

Well, 5 weeks isn't really any better than 4 weeks. People are extremely ignorant, this sort of thing makes me really sad.

But, good news in this case, she said that she is advertising early and taking money now, in order to weed out the impulse puppy adopters and that people will come back in a month to pick up their puppies. She explained the circumstances of the pregnancy too, and I absolutely believe that this was a huge "oops", her description rings very true.

Thanks or following up on that. I once had a family try to "sell" me a three week old kitten they had bought for $50.00. I gave them $20.00 and took the kitten to a person who stayed up with the kitten for several nights, only to have the kitten die. It was a really sad situation.

Thanks for the update, I'm soooo happy she's not trying to give them away yet.
