I don't know where to start.

Chan said it would be impossible to produce enough vaccine for all 6.8 billion people on the planet — a situation that could set off a global scramble where rich countries outbid poorer nations for the vaccine
Don't bank on that, Dr. Chan. Most of the people I've talked to about this, whereever they may lie on the vaccinating spectrum, are VERY wary of this vaccine coming out. You've got quite a marketing problem to contend with.

Some experts have wondered whether the world really needs a vaccine for an illness that so far appears mild.
Um, DUH? You don't need to vaccinate for EVERY freakin illness out there.

OK, I know this isn't supposed to read like this, but I couldn't help it:

...it would take away manufacturing capacity for the seasonal flu vaccine that kills up to 500,000 people each year.
That deadly, deadly flu vaccine!!

It's so sick, to me, that these "health" orginizations and people (supposedly) who are SO focused on getting a "Vacciene" for swine flu! WHY aren't they more focused on figuring out how to treat this illness, how to prevent it (aside form tamiflu) and ways of educating the public of GOOD HYGENE????? Money, of course but still!

Every real person I've talked to, or overheard talking about this swine flu is NOT worried about a vacciene- they are worried about ways to TREAT the disease! None of the people I've been around are willing to take this extremely experimental vax!!!
It's also interesting to me how much panic stems from the word Pandemic. *eye roll*

AND now I keep getting emails from major manufacters (on their lists for coupons) and almost all are peddling ANTI BACTERIAL this that and the other that will KILL almost ANY ORGINISM THAT TOUCHES OUR PRODUCT....makes me want to contact them and inquire how I will survive by using said product. They are breeding an enviornment to make EVEN MORE drug resistant strains of bugs out there....FEAR is a great money maker

Sad and sickening

Ah, but don't you realize that antidotes are not nearly as profitable as vaccines. MANY more people buy (or are coerced into buying) vaxes, whereas there's no profit in treating and curing the mere handful of swine flu victims.

That's why we here more talk of vaccines for HIV/AIDS and diabetes than actual cures. This is a tragedy for those already suffering from such conditions.

Um, yea, about that. I'm no scientist but.....exactly how is an antibacterial product supposed to prevent the transmission of a virus?? :

I will "donate" my vaccine to someone more in need of it. And I'm pretty sure the rest of my family is willing to do the same.

Crazy! They are all nuts!:

The fact that swine flu has been classified as a pandemic#5 has nothing to do with the severity of the illness. Pandemic is a word that is misconstrued by many people as deadly. Pandemic ratings are giving by how world wide the illness is spread and how easily it is spread. It has nothing to do with the effects of the illness on the human population or the severity of the virus. And by the time they come up with a vaccine, swine flu(may or may not) rear it's head this fall and by that time it is said it will have mutated(which is how we have different strains of flu each year) into another form of swine flu.

In any case, mass producing a pandemic vaccine would be a gamble, as it would take away manufacturing capacity for the seasonal flu vaccine that kills up to 500,000 people each year.
Freudian slip.

I will donate mine as well. They can have the anthrax and smallpox shots I'm sure are stored somewhere. Throw in any experimental AIDS vaccines too. As a matter of fact, I'm feeling very altruistic today. They can have my Td, chicken pox, MMR and other flu shots. They can even save the money they would waste in the future on my pneumococcal and shingles shots.
