Hmmm, never heard of it, what kind of birth(s) does it involve?

I had a horrid hospital birth with dd1, a great birth center birth with dd2, and am planning a HB for #3. Honestly, if the BC was still open, I'd go there b/c I had a really great experience, but since it's not a HB was the *much* better option for me. For me the BC was a good "happy medium" for both dh and my comfort, I was able to have a waterbirth, etc. I really healed a lot from the first birth. Now the HB is becoming more appealing but I do still have some nervousness, so I have to deal with that.

I would stay home. I was so happy I had decided that the last time. Once I was in labor, no way did I want to get in a vehicle.

The mess was not an issue. The midwife and assistant were very handy with the chux pads. We did end up with a black trash bag of laundry that wouldn't fit in the washer (740 ft apt, very small washer) which got forgotten about and stank. Luckily, it was the "throwaway" sheets anyway, so we threw it out. But if the same thing happens to you, I'd ask the midwives to write a big note about it and stick it somewhere like the fridge or the door so anyone can see it! We were so dazed and trying so hard to focus on the details of how to take care of the BABY that the "oh, and there's a load of wash here" did not sink in. ('Course, that was a first baby, maybe we'll be less distracted this time..????)

The Business of Being Born is a documentary about how birth has been over-medicalized in the U.S. It's really well done and I thought it was objective and backed itself up with lots of facts. It's a great movie to show to people questioning your decision for a home birth, or even just natural childbirth.

i would love to buy an inflatable pool--that would make my homebirth experience complete ...but i can just see the look on the office ppl's faces when i have to explain that i flooded the apartment!! :

You siphon with a hose. Put hose in pool start to suck on end of it until water is about half way through hose then you put the other end of the hose down (sink, bathtub, even out a window) and it drains the tub.

My first homebirth took place in our old house which was 1100 sq. feet. We put the birth pool in the living room with plastic and a big blanket underneath. I rented an aquadoula with a liner and a heater. It also came with a pump. The mess was minimal. I'm staying home for the third time with this baby so you know what my vote is.
