Thumbs up for children's hospital nurse!

I rarely have anything nice to say about the hospital my DD spends a lot of time at. Just lots of issue with her care and stuff. So this made me very happy today. We were in the ER and there was a nurse in training doing the computer stuff...asking what meds she's on, what surgeries she's had, ect. She was silent for a minute, just filling stuff out, and I heard the older nurse say, "You need to ask her that. You can't just assume the answer is no." So she turns to me and asks if DD is getting any breastmilk. I said "no, not anymore." "Ok." So she turns back to the younger nurse and says, "Just because she's 19 months doesn't mean she's not nursing. I mean, look at the shirt she's wearing!" I look down and I'm wearing my "Follow your heart....breastfeed" shirt. I told her my goal was to pump for 2 years but I lost my mind and stopped at 9 1/2 months. But that I'm a huge advocate, obviously. I'm glad she pointed it out. I'm sure even a lot of the more experieced nurses assume not.

Oh and DD is fine. Just her run-of-the mill pneumonia/respiratory distress/seizure thing she does every few months. They are pumping her full of antibiotics and we will be home tomorrow probably.

What a great story! I love it because not only did the older nurse know that you may be breastfeeding a 19 mo old, but now the nurse in training knows too!

So sorry you were in the hospital, but I'm glad there was a knowledgeable nurse there. Yay for the younger one learning!

Great story and glad you LO is ok.

Just wanted to say a big thanks for posting a positive nurse story. I feel like I read here all the time about how nurses are seen as the "bad guys" when it comes to breast feeding.
